Marinette had unfortunately lost her eyesight in a horrid tragedy a year before. She dreads the first day of her sophomore year (10th grade/10th year), fearing that none of the students will want anything to do with the poor blind girl yet again. Lu...
Once the final bell of the school day rang, every single student quickly rushed out of their classroom like a large swarm of flies. Adrien stood up along with the others until he noticed that Marinette was still sitting delicately in her seat. Not wanting to leave her by her lonesome, he decided to join her and ended up sitting himself back down. There were many various things about that girl that Adrien found so very intriguing. For one, she was one of the happiest people that Adrien had come to know despite the fact that she was unable to see. Granted, he wasn't quite sure how much of her joy was real. Even though Marinette rarely spoke of it, Adrien felt as if something related to her blindness was haunting her.
Marinette waited patiently in her seat until she was for certain that everyone else was out of the classroom. With such excitement in the students to return home, Marinette would surely be knocked around if she left the classroom at the same time as the remainder of the class. In fact, she already knew it to be true. Last year, she was constantly bumped into. Marinette would usually end collapsing onto the ground and having to remain there until the hallways were cleared. Whenever she could attempt to get up, someone would just smack into her again. The teachers would always come to her rescue, but only when they were around to see her in distress. Therefore, Marinette decided to learn from her mistakes rather than repeating them.
No longer hearing rushing footsteps leaving the classroom, Marinette carefully collected all her belongings. She was about to get up to leave before she noticed that she still felt Adrien's presence to her right. Marinette smiled to herself before turning to face him. "You didn't have to wait for me, you know. Go ahead and go home because I won't be leaving for awhile." She threw her pink school bag over her shoulders. "Nobody around here cares that I'm blind, so I have to take care of myself. That's how it went last year." She shrugged her shoulders before gingerly standing up and heading straight towards the exit.
Adrien, noticing where she was heading, quickly rushed over to her. He gently grabbed her wrist and pulled her back towards him before she smacked her head into the side of the doorway. "This year is different, Marinette." The young dark-haired girl paused to visualize the classroom's structure as it had looked a year ago. That was when she realized what Adrien had just done for her. Marinette looked up in Adrien's direction as he continued to speak, able to detect a genuine smile with his kind words. "You don't have to do all of this alone anymore, alright?"
