After quite some time, Adrien and Marinette both decided that neither of them wished to speak about Chloé any longer. Instead, they took out the strange boxes that they were given earlier that afternoon and gently held them in their hands. The two teenagers began to discuss which of them would be opening their peculiar gift first. The conversation took awhile, but eventually they both agreed upon opening them at the very same time.
"One...two...three!" After shouting the third number simultaneously, Adrien and Marinette both quickly flipped open their boxes together.
Immediately, Adrien was forced to shield his eyes with his arm because of a strange bright light that had suddenly appeared before him. Since she was unable to see anything, Marinette was completely unaffected by the odd occurrence. Whereas Marinette began to inspect the inside of the box with her fingers right away, the blonde decided to wait several seconds after the light had dimmed away before taking a peek at whatever had caused it.
Marinette was puzzled after inspecting the object. "It feels just like ordinary jewelry to me. Earrings, if I'm not mistaken. Why was it so important that we opened them without anyone else to see us?" The young girl patiently awaited for Adrien's response, but never received one. Her heart began to race as she sat in silence. "Adrien? What is it?"
"I...I'm not sure." Adrien was in disbelief as he glared into the green eyes of an unfamiliar flying creature in front of him.
Because of the nervous tone in the young boy's voice, Marinette threw her box down onto her desk as she clutched onto the blond's arm. "Adrien, you're scaring me. You know I can't see what's going on!"
"Oh, I'm sorry, Mari. I just got distract-" Adrien turned his head to face the girl. Rather than comforting her and explaining what he didn't quite understand himself, a different red creature had caught his attention. "Hey, you have one, too!"
"Have what? No one gets this excited over earrings. Adrien, what is it?" Marinette's heart rate began to increase even more than it had before.
With a chuckle, Adrien scratched the back of his head. "Okay, you're going to think I'm crazy, but they're fairies...I think."
The black creature flew in between the teenagers to face Adrien, "Kid, we aren't fairies. We're both kwamis...duh." The little creature rolled its bright green eyes as it crossed its tiny arms over its small chest.
The other creature, red and black spotted, followed behind the other before gently smacking the black...kwami...in the head. "Plagg, don't be so rude." The red kwami then looked up at the two young teenagers with a bright smile upon her face. "Hi, I'm Tikki! It is so very rare for the two of us to be introducing ourselves together. Master Fu must really trust the two of you!"
It took quite some time for both Plagg and Tikki to provide a very detail explanation of the entire situation, especially since Adrien and Marinette were in such disbelief. The red kwami Tikki seemed a bit more enthusiastic than Plagg, the black kwami. However, they both seemed quite glad to be able to protect the world again. It had been awhile since the last Ladybug and Chat Noir. A long while...
Once Marinette and Adrien were completely informed of everything that was necessary for their new hero lives, they were told to put in their individual jewelries. All of the Ladybugs were given a pair of red and black spotted earrings, which would remain a solid black color when not in use. The Chat Noirs, however, were to wear a black and green ring that would remain a solid silver color when in civilian form. The kwamis had referred to the jewelry as miraculouses, which was the primary source of all of their magical abilities.
Whereas Adrien instantly put the silver ring on his finger immediately without further questioning, Marinette was quite hesitant. Her head hung low as she examined the earrings with her fingertips. A blind superhero? Was that even possible? How could a person fight off criminals if they were completely unable to see them? Marvel's Daredevil seemed to manage, but he was a victim of a toxic waste accident that granted him other extraordinary senses (as well as being a fictional character made up just to give children hope). Marinette, on the other hand, was just a typical teenage girl. "Tikki? I think you have the wrong girl..." Marinette's voice was uneven as she attempted to fight back a few escaping tears.
Adrien stretched his arm out, placing it on his new friend's shoulder. "Marinette-"
Marinette shook his hand off of her shoulder. "I'm sorry, Adrien. It might be best if you found yourself a partner who's able to physically see whoever they're up against. I'd only slow you down..."
Tikki, as optimistic as ever, flew around Marinette several times before landing on her shoulder. "You were chosen for a reason, Marinette. It's in your destiny! We all have faith in you. All you need to do is have faith in yourself!"
Perhaps she was not ideal for the role of a superhero, but Marinette could never turn down an opportunity to help others. Marinette stood up from her desk chair to put the dark, solid-colored earrings into the tiny pierced hole in both of her ears. "Alright, fine. I'll try. If I can't do it, which I don't think I can, I'm putting my trust in Adrien to be able to find himself a new potential partner."
With a smile, Adrien stood up to stand directly next to Marinette. Picking up on how tense and nervous she was, Adrien took Marinette's hand and gently held it in his. Together, the two teenagers shouted for their kwamis to transform them. Adrien might have been enjoying the entire transformation process, but it was terrifying for Marinette, who couldn't see what was happening to the both of them. Even though is was not necessary, she shut her eyes. Marinette was able to feel her entire body being covered in spandex along with a mask of some-sort forming around her eyes. Once she believed for the transformation to be over, she opened up her eyes.
After briefly admiring his own costume, Adrien looked over at who would be his partner in crime, Ladybug. The very first thing that he had noticed was that she was crying. It wasn't just a few tears, either. The young girl was sobbing! Adrien rushed over to her to pull her into a tight hug. "Marinette, what's wrong? Are you okay?"
"Better than okay!" Marinette wiped away any tears that remained on her face before looking up at the blond. Only, this time it was different. It was almost as if she was actually looking at him. "Adrien, I...I can see you. I can actually see you!" Marinette, or at the moment Ladybug, reached her hands up to cup the boy's face in her hands. Her smile was so bright as her eyes began to water. "Adrien, or I suppose I should get used to saying Chat Noir...your eyes are the most beautiful shade of green."
