Adrien and Marinette strolled into the school building with their elbows interlinked together. Marinette was slightly nervous about returning to school with her vision fully recovered. Her classes would be much different now that she can physically visualize whatever was occurring. She also feared how the teachers and other students would react. To her surprise, though, the entire school appeared to be overjoyed. Students who had ignored Marinette during her time of disability approached her to apologize. Most of them had explained to her how they never meant to hurt her, they only felt awkward since they were unsure how to react to her injury. Marinette also spoke to new potential friends, such as a bubbly dark-haired girl named Alya and a quite dark-haired boy by the name of Nino.

There was one student, however, who seemed to be disappointed that Marinette could see once again. The monster who was the initial cause of her blindness, Chloé Bourgeois, was angrier than she had ever been before. Because of such a rare occurrence, Marinette and her recovery was what the entire school was speaking about. She even managed to pass Chloé up for the center of attention. Of course, that was never Marinette's intention, but the rich blonde did not seem to care. All that she was concerned about was that she was no longer the most popular student at school and Marinette was to blame for it. Marinette could see the hate for her that burned so strongly in Chloé's bright blue eyes.

In fact, Chloé was so upset that she even decided to confront Marinette at school once the young, innocent girl was alone, "I don't know exactly what you're trying to pull, Marinette, but I'm not falling for it. You might have those other morons fooled, but I can see exactly what you're trying to do." She  furiously poked at Marinette's shoulder with her index finger.

Marinette simply rolled her eyes and crossed her arms across her chest. "Chloé, not everything is about you. Do you honestly believe that my eyesight miraculously returned just to inconvenience you? I'm lucky that I'm even able to see again after what you did!"

Chloé snorted, "Yeah? I'd gladly do it again, too. You're so stupid that you'd still probably won't tell anyone." She moved her hands to rest them on her hips.

"She may not say anything, but you better believe that I sure will." Adrien walked up behind Marinette, wrapping his right arm around her tiny little waist. "I don't know what your issue is with Marinette, but I will not let you hurt her or anyone else ever again."

Seeing Adrien so defensive over Marinette, Chloé's eyes went wide with shock. "Adrikins, what in the world are you doing?"

Adrien's eyes narrowed. "My name is Adrien and I'm defending my best friend. "

Chloé sighed before crossing her arms over her chest, "What a shame. We would have made such a perfect couple, Adrikins. But, I don't want to be with anyone who is friends with such a loser." She giggled to herself.

"First of all, Marinette is nowhere near a loser. She's perfect in every single way." Adrien, smiling, looked over at Marinette to see her beautiful blue eyes looking back at him with a twinkle. His smile faded away as he turned his head back around to glare at Chloé. "Second, I wouldn't want to be with a monster like you, anyway."

The spoiled blonde girl gasped in disgust, "How dare you! I'm doing to have Daddy get your father fired for you treating his little princess like that!"

Adrien let out a sarcastic laugh, "Are you forgetting that my father makes much more money that yours does? We aren't afraid of you, Chloé. You are nothing but a selfish bully."

With her face turning to a shade of bright red, Chloé stormed off with both of her fists clenched. Marinette was amazed at how well Adrien had handled the situation since he hasn't been exposed to many social interactions. She looked up at him with a bright smile. "Thank you for that, Adrien."

He lowered his head down a bit, forcing his voice to become a mere whisper as he spoke in Marinette's ear, "I guess cats can be somewhat purrtective at times."

Blushing gently, Marinette giggled a cute little laugh. She booped his nose with her index finger, "Thank goodness I have you to protect me, kitty." How did she become so lucky to have such an amazing friend and a great partner? She knew that anything more would cause difficulties, so she kept her true feelings to herself. If they became more than just simple friends, they would worry too much about each other rather than all of the citizens of Paris. The two would become more selfish, wanting to keep each other alive and well. Such feelings may cause a downgrade in their superhero responsibilities.

"I'll protect you until the day I die." Adrien leaned over to kiss the side of her forehead.

Marinette, with a face almost as red as a ladybug, instantly pulled Adrien into a hug. She was so very grateful to have such an amazing person looking after her. She cried tears of joy as a grin appeared. It wasn't everyday that someone cared so much for her, but Adrien did. The thing is, Adrien has had strong feelings for Marinette for quite some time. Even before the two of them became Parisian superheroes, Adrien knew that there was something very special about her. From day one, he suspected that there was some sort of spark between them. Of course, he wasn't planning on doing anything about it for quite awhile. After all, it may ruin their friendship.

Keeping a smile on Marinette's face was more important to him than anything else.
