'Penny's pov'"Hello? Is anyone there?" I ask, looking around. Where am I? I thought. I am bathed in stifling darkness. I walked forward and I bumped into a pole. As my eyes adjusted to the dark, I noticed that I was enclosed in a cage. Hay was strewn across the floor. My heart started to race as I heard a door slowly creak open. A man in khaki pants and a polo shirt sauntered in, looking at me as if I was a stain on his carpet. "Your name is Ariella Lawson, 10 years old, correct?" He asked, looking at a clipboard. How did he know that? I asked myself. He couldn't have known my age. Even though I'm 10, I look 7. "Y-Yes." I said, stepping away from the front of the enclosure. "Hello, then. Now you may be wondering why you're here, aren't you?" Asked the man. I nodded. " You are here because we would like to run some tests on you. These shots will make you highly intelligent. Before we go any further, have you seen anybody other than me who has came in here lately? It seems that my door has been left unlocked. I know for sure that I keep this door locked at all times. Answer truthfully, now." My heart stopped. Someone had come in here. I was half asleep, but I'm sure that a bunch of kids came in this room. I heard a girl screaming: "Trash can! Trash freaking can! We gotta go!" Whatever that meant. Then, before they ran, they all stopped to look at me. The same girl screamed: " I swear on my life I will come back for you!" And then they all ran. It's been two days now. I don't know if they'll ever come back for me. "No. Nobody has come in here. Maybe you just forgot to lock the door." I said, twiddling my thumbs. "Maybe so, maybe so. But just to be safe, I'll install some cameras and extra security around this area. Don't want anyone to find out about you, now do we?" He said. Then, he walked out the door. After a while, I heard an intercom announcement. It said: "Attention all campers, there has been a break-in to Mr. Moriarty's office. If anyone knows anything at all about this, please let me know. Thank you. Have a good day!" The intercom clicked off. Campers? I thought to myself. The confusion about where I was and what was going to happen to me started to grow. Let's hope those kids keep their promises.
'Alice's pov'
I woke up the next day, ready to start doing something, anything. This place is too sinister to handle and I need to take my mind off things. Today we would call the police and tell them about Penny. There is still security around Mr. Moriarty's door. I saw Amelia across the room, getting dressed. "Hey." I said. Amelia jumped and hit her elbow on the table. She must have thought that everyone was in bed. She looked around and saw me. "Hey, Alice. Didn't see you there." She laughed. She finished lacing up her combat boots and sat down on her bed. "Are you sure this is the safest thing to do?" Asked Amelia, furrowing her brow. I raised my eyebrows and said" of course it is! We're saving a little girl and possibly getting out of here in the process! All it takes is one simple phone call and we're out of here!" " who's gonna do that, anyway?"
Asked Amelia. Huh. I never thought about who was actually going to call them. " I guess I will." I said, stifling a yawn. "Good. I don't wanna do it." Said Amelia. We walked into the auditorium to find Andy and Spencer. We saw them at the top of the auditorium, in the main back row. We walked over and Andy said: "Today is the day. Alice is gonna call them, right?" I nodded. We made our way to the front desk, trying to look inconspicuous. When we got there, Penelope said: " Can I help you?" While straightening some papers on her desk. "Yes, you can. I want to call my parents. Where's your phone?" I asked her. " Why do you need to call your parents?" Questioned Penelope. " My mom told me to call her whenever I need her, and today is one of those days. I miss her!" I said."
Okay. It's right over there. " Said Penelope. She pointed over to the pay phone in front of the entrance. " I need a quarter" I said, holding out my hand. She dropped one into my palm and I went over to the phone. I took a deep breath and dialed 9-1-1. The phone crackled to life and a ladies voice said: "911 what is your emergency?" "Hi, my name is Alice Hutchins. I go to Camp Clearwater, the camp on the outside of the Dean State Forest."
"Okay. Hi, Alice. What's your problem?" " The thing is... My friends and I broke into the head directors office and we found a little girl in there covered in tubes. We didn't steal anything. She needs to get out of there. Come quick, please!" I heard nothing but silence for a few seconds and then: " Okay. We're on our way. Should take a couple of hours. Will be there at 3:00. Thank you for notifying us, an officer is on the way." Click. I did it. I turned to my friends and have them a thumbs up. They nodded and we walked away. Now, it was time to wait.
