Chapter 11

"Here we are! One of the coolest places on Earth!" I say and Luke laughs. "I never thought that you would like carnivals so much." He says and I laugh. "One of the most surprising things about me is that I adore carnivals." I say and he nods his head. "Where do you want to go first?" He asks and I point to somewhere across the street. "Can we please go to the House of Mirrors?" I ask and he laughs. "You are acting like little kid right now." He says and I pull him after me. "Come on already! Lets go!" I say and he runs after me as I race to the house full of mirrors. "Hahaha! I win!" I say and walk inside the house. "Where are you, Kat?!" Luke yells and I laugh. "You have to find me first!" I yell and see his reflection in a mirror to my right. I run to my left and crash right into Luke's chest. "I guess I found you." He says in my ear and I laugh. "Fine, fine, fine! I guess you got me." I say and we sit down. "I've never seen you so happy." He says as I lay down on my back. "Most of my happiest memories are spent at the carnival." I say and he lays down right next to me. "What are the rest of your most happiest moments?" He asks as he takes my hand. "The first one would have to be with you, and the second would have to be when I was given the executive position." I say and he smiles. "I'm glad that I'm your number one." He says and I laugh. "You'll always be my number one." I say and hug him.

"Where are the others? They said that they'd be here." I say then hear screaming behind me. "Katrina!" I hear Lilac scream and I turn around only to get tackled by her. "Hey Lilac! Can you get off of me?!" I ask and she gets off of me. "I'm sorry, but I haven't see you since yesterday." She says and pulls me up. "What are you doing here? I thought that you were on a date with Michael?" I ask and she blushes. "Amanda and Kahlen called and told me that they were going to the carnival, and that you were going to be here." She explains and I look around. "Hey, where is Michael?" I ask and see Michael tackle Luke. "Muke is here. That might just be the cutest bromance that I have ever seen." I say and Lilac and I burst into a fit of laughter. "Hey girls!" Amanda and Kahlen yell as they walk up to us. "Hey wear are the boys?" I ask and they both point to Luke with the rest of the boys. They're all dressed in pants and hoodies while we're dressed in normal clothes. "Cake ladies. The most cutest thing I have ever seen in my entire life." I say and we all laugh as the boys walk over to us. "Hey y'all!" Michael attempts to say and I shake my head. "No. Please don't ever try that again." I say and he nods. "Can we get something to eat? I'm hungry." Kahlen says and I nod. "Yeah I could eat." I say and the boys nod. "Where do we eat?" Calum asks and all of us girls grin. "That's the best part." I say and start walking. We get to a booth and come face to face with a girl with black hair. "Hi! Can I get a box of barbecue pizza?" I ask and the girl nods her head. I hand her a ten dollar bill, and she hands me my pizza. I walk off and everyone follows me. "When we go to the carnival we all share. So grab a slice." I say and they each grab a slice. The boys take a bite and moan out loud. "This is amazing!" They say and I laugh. "Better than my food?" I ask, but they shake their heads. "It's okay guys. I love carnival food more than my food." I say and take another bite of my slice of pizza. We finish eating then we walk over to another booth, and I laugh. "Hey Carlos!" I say and he smiles. "Hey Katrina! What can I get you?" He says and I smile. "Can I get four jumbo sized chocolate funnel cakes?" I ask and he nods. I turn around to the boys and smile. "I need five dollars each." I say and they hand it to me. "Here you go Katrina!" Carlos says and I hand him the money. "Thanks! See you around!" I say and we walk away. "Who was that?" Luke asks. "That's Carlos. When I was in culinary school he was my friend. He came back with me and started a booth." I say and Luke sighs. I laugh and smile at him. "We can split this 'cause y'all don't eat as much as we do." I say and he nods. We take a bite and he moans. "Does everything make you moan?" I ask and he shrugs. "If it's good then yes." He says and I laugh. "Can you sing for me?" I ask and he nods. "Sure what song?" He asks and I look down at my shirt. "How about You Belong by the Plain White T's?" I say and he nods. He starts to sing and someone screams. We look around and a girl points at us. She sees Luke and starts to run towards us. "Run!" Luke shouts and we break into a full out run. "Why are we running?!" I shout as we keep running. "Because that girl heard me singing!" He yells and runs faster. We get to our cars and get in. "Where are we going?" Michael asks as he pulls up beside us. "To our house." Luke says and Michael nods. "I don't see why we're leaving?" I ask and he gives me an eye roll. "I swear you are so stupid sometimes." He mumbles under his breath and I start to see red. "Did you just call me stupid?" I ask and he ignores me. I give him a 'You-really-think-I'm-that-stupid' look and take a deep breath. "I said 'Did you just call me stupid'?" I ask again and he shrugs. "So what if I did?" He says and I take another deep breath to calm myself down, but it doesn't work. "Stop the car." I say and he looks at me. "What?" He asks and I glare at him. "I said 'Stop the car'!" I yell and he slams down the breaks. "What is wrong with you?!" He shouts and I stick my finger right in the middle of his chest. "Don't you ever call me stupid again! Ever!" I yell and he looks at me with a fearful expression. "Why are you so angry? It's just a word!" Luke yells and I explode. "I've had to bust my butt for years to get where I am now! Had to prove myself time and time again! You don't get the right to call me stupid! Not you or anybody else!" I yell and start to cry. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings." He says, but I continue to cry. "You don't understand. I've been judged and neglected for something that I'm passionate about. I had to study law for a year just to make my parents happy. For someone, even you, to call me 'stupid' is the biggest insult someone could EVER call me." I say and Luke pulls me in for a hug. "I know what it's like when people doubt you, and you have to prove yourself again and again. You're not the only person who goes through that. Besides I believe in you." He whispers in my ear and I hug him tighter. "I'm really sorry that I called you stupid. I promise I wouldn't have said it if I would've know that it would hurt your feelings." He says and I nod my head which is on his chest. "It's okay. I just need you to understand." I say and he nods his head which is on my shoulder too. "I do understand and I'm really sorry." He says and I pull away from him. "I'm sorry that I yelled at you. Can we please just go home?" I ask and he nods. "Sure, but we're going to my temporary home." He says and we drive off to his house.

When we get there everyone's already there and they look at us. "Where have you been?!" Lilac, Amanda, and Kahlen yell as they run over to me and pull me in for a tight hug. "We had to stop for, um...gas." I say and they give me an 'I-don't-believe-you' look. I give a tight smile and shake my head. They let go and walk over to their boyfriends. I sigh and rub my head. "You know what guys? I don't feel so good. I think that I'm just going to hit the haystack." I say and Cal calls out behind me. "What does that mean?" He asks and Kahlen laughs. "It means that she's going to go to sleep. Do you boys NOT know anything?" She asks and starts to laugh. I laugh a little and walk upstairs. I walk down the hall until I see a door that reads ' Luke Hemming's room. Do not enter'. I open the door and close it behind me as I walk in. I sit down on the bed and sigh to myself. I hear the door to the room open again and look up to see Luke standing there. "Hey. How did you know that this was my room?" He asks as he closes the door. "Oh maybe the sign on the front of your door gave it away." I say with sarcasm everywhere in my voice. He walks over to the bed and sits right next to me. He takes one of my hands in his and just holds it. We don't say anything for a while. I sit there and look at the floor, and he does the same. After a while he asks,"Are you ready to go to sleep?" I nod my head and finally look at him. "Can I borrow some clothes please?" I ask and he nods. "Yeah. It's just in that drawer over there." He says and points to a dresser. I walk over to it and pull out a pair of grey/gray sweatpants and a '5SOS' muscle tee shirt and walk over to the bathroom and step inside. I take a quick shower and throw the clothes on before I walk out of the bathroom. "Are you still mad at me?" Luke asks as I walk out of the bathroom. "No I'm not. I know that you didn't mean to call me that, and I also know that you really are sorry. Si I forgive you." I say and hug him around the waist. "Well I'm glad because you look adorable in my clothes." He says and hugs me back. I pull away from him enough to look at his face, and before I know it I'm running my hands through his hair. He looks at me too, and he puts his hands on my hips. I cup his cheeks with my hands and kiss him. He kisses me back and pulls me against him as I throw my arms around his neck. After about two minutes I break the kiss for air and he does too. "I'm glad that we're okay. I don't want you to leave me." He says and I look into his eyes that are filled with compassion and love. "I'll never leave you, Luke, and you're crazy if you think that I will." I say and him again. I let go of him and lay down on his bed. "Now I'm ready to go to sleep." I say and he lays down right next to me and wraps me in his arms before he sings me to sleep.
