(A/N) Early update!! But short chapter. I'm not a fan of this chapter...but vote and comment if you do anyway. Music on the side is Where We Land by Ed Sheeran which in my opinion is fitting for this chapter. You can listen to it and read at the same time. And if you don't already know, first chapter of 30 Places in 30 Days is up, you can go check it out!

Chapter 10

What was that?! My head whipped towards the direction of the noise. I quickly turned down the volume of the movie and held up the remote controller with shaking hands. 'Hello? Who's there?' I called out unsteadily. Could it be a zombie, trying to bite and infect me with the virus and turn me into a zombie too?! 'Go away, zombie! I am armed. With a very dangerous weapon,' I glanced at the controller in my hand. Yes, very dangerous indeed.

Thud, thud, thud. Soft slow footsteps were getting clearer, nearing towards me.

I pressed myself against the wall, my heart slamming hard against my ribcage. I wasn't ready to be turned into a zombie! My instincts were telling me the unidentified person was really close. I sucked in a breath.

Hi-yah!

I jumped from behind the wall and swung hard with my "weapon", aiming at the silhouette's face. The stranger, who I could finally confirm as a male, had fast reflexes and caught it in midair. He stumbled into the light and I let out a cry, quickly grabbing his shoulders before he fell face first onto the floor.

Too late.

'Oh, bugger,' I muttered, falling roughly onto my butt with Daniel's weight on me, his face nuzzled against my shoulder. 'Daniel?' I breathed, aware that we were in a too-close position. Was he dead? No, I could feeling his breaths tickling my skin. I glanced behind him where he must have broken the window and climb through it, leaving sharp pieces of glass scattered on the floor. 'Daniel, can you stand?' I asked, trying to heave him up.

I finally had a good look at him. What was he thinking, dressed up all in black??? There was a cut on his temple where blood was trickling from, his nose was bleeding too and he had a few other cuts on his hands and knees. His hair was worse than its usually messed-up style. He smelt like apricots and mint and something smoky combined.

'Gosh, you're much heavier than I thought you would be. Just when I thought nothing could be worse than a really soaked Judo gi,' I muttered, struggling to hold Daniel up. In the end, I half-dragged his body to the couch and managed (with much difficulty) to lay him on top. 'Daniel, you idiot, what did you do?' I muttered under my breath, realising that my voice was breaking.

I grabbed the first aid kit, a bowl of water and a clean cloth. My hands were shaking badly as I dabbed away the blood before cleaning his wounds with antiseptic. Daniel was asleep when I bandaged the wounds. I sighed as I felt my back started to ache. I noticed a huge shard of glass protruding from his leg and blood was oozing out from it. The wave of nausea hit me as I slowly pulled at the shard.

Daniel's leg gave a twitch and he groaned when my trembling hands pulled out the glass piece. 'I'm so sorry! So sorry!' I nearly sobbed and with a final jerk, extracted the little devil. 'This is going to sting,' I murmured softly as I washed the deep cut with saline. Daniel let out a hiss and I couldn't imagine how much it stung him. Biting my lips so as to not cry, I bandaged his leg and secured it with a pin.

Daniel had calmed down and I supposed he was asleep. I sat back down on my behind and folded my legs to my chest. I glanced at my hands and clothes which were stained with his blood. What did the poor boy do? That question plagued my mind.

He muttered things in his sleep though, that I found out. I could see tomorrow's headline: Daniel Haynes Dreams of Unicorns. I thought I heard him wrongly, but he said, 'Take me over the rainbow o' creature of purity.' Maybe he took a blow to the head. I wondered if that would affect his IQ. Like I wouldn't mind inheriting some of his brain cells, mum would be so happy if that could happen.
