Differential: Division Five
As the stranger pulled out a duffle bag-packed full, I might add- I realized I didn't even know his name.
"So, do I get to hear the name of my savior?" I added some sarcasm in there, but I really was curious as to his name.
The man rolled his eyes, but gave me a small smile.
"Depends. What's your name?"
"I asked first."
By now he had two duffle bags in his hands, and we were speeding out of the house.
"Seth."
"Shannon." I relented.
I knew this man had saved me. I knew he was part Aduroum. That meant he was good right? But this situation was quickly spiraling downward. And I didn't have the luxury of trusting everyone.
I scanned my surroundings, noting the two car garage connected to Seth's house. Also the fact that we appeared to be in the back forty. The house sat in the middle of a lush forest, and a long, narrow, gravel drive disappeared around a corner.
A car horn snapped me from my thoughts, as I jumped and spun around.
Um, wow.
Seth sat inside a sleek black Camero.
I knew it probably had another name, like a Camero Infinity TS6 or something, but hey, I don't know a lot about cars. I mean really? I'm a girl. A car is a car. But at least I knew it was a Camero.
Another horn beep and an impatient glare sent me scurrying into the passenger seat, as a twinge of something unexplainable shuddered through me.
"Sorry."
Seth floored it, sending the tires spinning and gravel flying.
"We need to go. I sensed something."
My breath hitched as Seth sped up even more, and I clicked my seatbelt reassuringly around me.
"Wait. Like a Bræum? Was that what I felt? That....feeling?"
Seth nodded tensely as he made a turn onto an interstate.
My stomach swirled as I looked around, searching for anything out of the ordinary.
"Isn't this car a little conspicuous?"
Keeping his eyes on the road, he swerved, dodging the too slow drivers.
"Noticeable doesn't matter. They've found us already. We need fast."
At his words I twisted around in my seat, and saw his words were true. Two cars back, and speeding closer, were two silver Hummers. The windows were tinted so I couldn't see inside very well, but I knew it was them.
I heard Seth swear under his breath, then push the red needle past eighty.
I put a hand on the dash and my other gripped the Oh Shit Grip deathly tight.
We were going to die, I thought as Seth sped past a semi-truck and whipped in front of it.
"Slow down!" I yelled, fearing a collision on an interstate. That would not only kill us, but many others.
"I slow down and we die! The Bræum will run us off the road."
I glanced back and saw the Hummers staying close, gaining even more ground.
"They can't kill us! The treaty!" My heart skipped a beat as Seth narrowly missed a minivan.
"The Treaty doesn't apply to us!" Seth swerved, crossing two lanes and taking an exit. I squeezed my eyes shut, as his words registered.
