Differential: Division Point-Five
Aduroum. One word. Three syllables. Ah-Dur-Um. Infinite meanings. Intelligence. Being. Light. But only one mattered.
Life.
The Aduroum were a kind people by nature. Beings of light, they knew no evil.
But nothing could have prepared them for what was happening. Right before their eyes.
Their planet, Aliel, eons away from our galaxy, was dying. Foreign toxins, having hitched a ride on a meteor, contaminated their atmosphere.
Everything began to die. The animals, the ecosystems, even the people.
Though the technology and opportunities of the Aduroum were many millennia beyond ours, they were no match for the toxins. Light from Aliel's two suns could no longer reach the sick planet. Everything grew dark.
And so, having no other option, the Aduroum left Aliel, the only home they had ever known.
It took them a long time to reach their new home, a smaller planet they called Aneach. So long their history had forgotten why they left.
Life for the Aduroum continued, though most were unhappy. The animals were vicious. The plants poisonous. Their new home was no match for Aliel.
Not knowing why their ancestors had left, the Aduroum returned to Aliel, hoping for a better life.
Again, nothing could have prepared them. In the Aduroum's absence, a new species had evolved.
The Bræum. The polar-opposites of the Aduroum. The Bræum came from darkness, all that was left of the once beautiful and beloved planet Aliel. They were evil.
In the absence of light, darkness had formed.
The Bræum were unwilling to give the planet back. They were unwilling to cooperate or come to an agreement. But they were willing to kill.
A war followed, in which the Aduroum fought, not for a planet they couldn't live on, but for revenge. Revenge to those first killed by the Bræum.
The darkness tainted them.
By the time both sides tired of fighting, 89% of the Aduroum had been exterminated.
An agreement was reached. The Treaty Of Sorrow signed. The war stopped. The Bræum were forbidden to kill another Aduroum.
But the Aduroum could not reclaim their lost planet. They could not live there, that darkness was too much.
Yet again, the Aduroum left. This time, their destination closer, yet still billions of light-years away.
A green and blue planet, full of life and promise. Full of hope.
A planet called Earth.
