Differential: Division Epilogue
I turned my face up, soaking in the sun. Reveling in it.
But a small part of me rebelled, hating the light and growing sick. That part of me urged me toward the darkness, to the point of no return.
I pushed that part down.
Seth walked beside me, holding my hand.
We were outside of another one of the colony's safe houses. I didn't want to be there yet. News was already spreading that the Warrior had come. I couldn't stand the stares and glares.
Camilla had known about the Prophecy. That's why she handed me over to the Bræum, hoping that they would do the unthinkable.
I still couldn't talk about what had happened. And I was still extremely angry with her. Why me? I had asked. Camilla said it didn't matter when, that I was fated to be the way I am now. She said that if another half blood went through the same thing, nothing would have happened.
I didn't buy it.
I told Camilla very clearly, that if she even touched me or Seth again, she would regret it.
She had laughed.
I pulled myself from my thoughts, facing Seth. The sun framed his silver hair, reflecting off it.
He withdrew his dagger from his pocket. Mine was gone, lost to the Bræum.
"How does this Guardian oath work?" I asked.
Seth had told me there was an oath to be said that would bind us together, as Guardian and Warrior.
"I'll say some words, and you accept. Pretty simple. But it requires blood. It's essential Binding us, but much stronger."
I nodded as Seth drew the blade across his right palm, leaving behind a bright trail of blood.
I momentarily worried that my blood would infect Seth, but I think The blood Seth's grandfather gave me would prevent that.
I mirrored his motions, watching as dark blood welled from the cut on my hand.
Tainted blood.
I pressed my palm against his gasping quietly as a tingling sensation swarmed my hand.
"In the name of the Guardians, the ancient ones, I pledge my protection to Shannon, the Warrior. I will protect her under all circumstances and at all costs. And when my protection fails, I will offer everything I have, or I will forfeit my life." He took a deep breath as the tingling sensation increased.
"When my pledge-"
A shock of electricity stuck through me, strait into Seth.
I heard his cry of pain a moment before I was thrown before I was thrown backward, hitting the ground with a heavy thud.
I sat up, rubbing my hip where it ht the ground.
"Seth, what the hell was-?"
My heart thudded as I saw him sit up, a long gash down the corner of his hairline.
"That's not possible. He told me. I'm the one. It's not-"
"Seth! What happened?" I asked, jogging over to him and kneeling down.
He pushed himself up on his elbows, and I grimaced at the blood dripping into his eyes.
"Shannon-I'm not........." He sucked in a gulp of breath.
"I'm not your Guardian."
