Differential: Division Thirteen
Seth had a car waiting nearby; but everything seemed too easy. We had practically walked out of the compound. Why?
The compound sat in the middle of a forest, with a small creek nearby. The Bræum didn't strike me as the swimming type. I had no idea where we were, and Seth didn't either. I'm assuming only Camilla knew.
So if she wanted to.....I don't know have an accident? This would be the perfect place to do it. So I kept my guard up.
"Shannon, what-your hair-your eyes!"
I knew Seth's exclamation was coming, but it still hurt to have to answer it. I had only caught a glimpse of my new look, but I knew I hated it. Not because of how I looked, but because of what it meant.
"They injected me with Bræum blood." I said flatly, and I hated the satisfied grin on Camilla's face.
I gave her a death glare.
I hesitated, standing in the sun a while longer. I had missed it so much, being without the wonderful warmth. My heart ached just thinking about that place.
Camilla jumped in the Ford's driver seat, and Seth and I sat in back.
"Sleep Shannon. You need it."
He guided my head to his shoulder, and just as I started to fall asleep, he started humming. I tried to pry open my eyes again, but I was so tired I couldn't. I could still hear Seth talking to Camilla, but I was only half conscious.
"How'd you find me?" I asked groggily, finding myself humming along to the tune.
"One of Camilla's men was tracking a Bræum, and followed it here."
Of course, it would be one of Camilla's men. But if she had known where I was....then why now? Why did she come and 'rescue' me now, when she could have died herself? She had said something about....it was for the greater good. And Crazy guy had implied the same thing.
Had they wanted this to happen? Wanted me injected with Bræum blood so I would become the one on the prophecy? I intended to find out.
I was just on the edge of sleeping when I recognized the tune Seth was humming.
"-fleeting shadow in the sky
I know that your still here
You were always meant to fly." I whispered, my eyes popping open and looking up into Seth's silver ones.
I was hit by the fact that he wasn't seeing the same thing. I could almost see my black eyes reflected in his lighter ones.
Seth's eyebrows shot up, "You know that ryme?" He asked quietly.
I nodded, wide awake now.
"This.....a dream kind of like, and I saw a crazy guy, and he said it. Hummed it too. I wondered why-"
And it was then, staring up at Seth, that I knew why Crazy guy had looked familiar.
"He looked like you." I whispered.
Seth sat up suddenly, my head knocking off his shoulder.
"Did he look like he needed a shave? Hazel colored eyes?"
"Yeah." Who was this guy, that Seth knew him too?
"That's my grandpa. He used to sing that to my dad when he was young, and my dad to me. He's the one who-" Suddenly, Seth's eyes grew huge, as he looked from me to my hair, then back at me.
"Oh my God. I never would have thought- it's you."
Camilla looked in the rearview mirror, and I looked back at Seth.
