Annabeth POV
-
Images flashed by in my head. Pure darkness. The goddess Nyx and her children. The fire of the River Phlegethon burning my throat. Monsters reforming. The monsters closing in around us. The curses. Everything.
Suddenly, I blinked my eyes open. Drenched in a cold sweat and twisted up in the sheet, I felt my heart pounding heavily in my chest. I rolled over, and my heart skipped a beat. Thank gods I'd been smart enough to ask Percy to stay. If I'd been alone when I had that nightmare, I'd probably be halfway into a full-on panic attack by now.
"Percy!" I whispered, the dream replaying through my mind.
Percy's eyes snapped open. "What's wrong?"
"I had a dream. We... We were back in Tartarus. I remembered everything. It was all so vivid..."
Tears stung at the corners of my eyes, and I moved right next to Percy. He wrapped his arms around me, pulling me closer.
"Hey... It's okay."
A single tear fell down my cheek, landing on Percy's shirt.
"Thanks for staying last night.. It meant a lot. I don't know what I would have done if you weren't here."
Percy pressed his lips to my forehead. "Anything for you, Wise Girl."
He ran his fingers over one of the blue streaks in my hair. "Why did you change that?"
"Change what?"
"You had the pink and black. Why'd you change that for blue?"
"I guess I just liked blue better."
"Yeah, everything's better in blue." After a second, Percy finally realized what that meant. "You did that for me!"
"Who else loves blue as much as you?"
"You, now."
"That's true."
"I love you, Wise Girl."
"I love you more."
"I love you most."
We stayed there for what seemed like forever, but I didn't mind. It felt simply perfect, being with my Seaweed Brain.

Percy POV

Later on, Annabeth had gone downstairs to make breakfast. She wanted me to stay longer, and honestly, I didn't want to leave. I took the opportunity to read the song I'd hidden in my pocket.
Since Annabeth had written the chords along with the lyrics, I picked up her guitar as well. Thank gods she wrote the song in Ancient Greek! I played the notes as I sang.
After I finished, I wondered why Annabeth threw it away. This is an amazing song, why wouldn't she use it?
Carefully setting the guitar back down, I shoved the song back into my pocket and ran downstairs.
"Hey, Wise Girl," I greeted her, sitting in one of the chairs at the counter.
"Hey, Seaweed Brain."
Annabeth set a plate in front of me, three blue pancakes piled onto it.
"Want some blue syrup?" She asked, handing me a bottle of maple syrup dyed blue.
"Think I don't?"
After drizzling a ton of syrup onto the pancakes, I set the bottle aside and snuck around the counter.
"Romance ninja!" I exclaimed, wrapping my arms around Annabeth's waist and using a quote from the Big Bang Theory.
"Oh my gods!" Annabeth laughed. "You are literally the worst ninja ever."
"Yeah, but I'm good at the romance part."
"Can't argue with that."
I sat on the counter and pulled out the crumpled paper.
"What's that?" Annabeth asked.
"I stole this from your room."
"What?"
"When we cleaned up, I put this in my pocket."
"You are such a seaweed brain."
"Yeah, but now you have an awesome song."
"If it was crumpled on the floor, it means it's not good."
"That's a lie. Just read it!"
After a few minutes, Annabeth sighed and slammed the paper onto the counter.
"Well?"
"It may not suck as much as I thought."
"OH YEAH! EPIC WIN!" I slid off the counter. "I told you so!"
Annabeth rolled her eyes, but smiled. "You're a complete and total seaweed brain, but I love you anyway."
"Well, what are you waiting for? Sing the song!"
After a moment of thought, Annabeth declared, "We're doing a duet."
"What?"
"Most of it is meant to have two people singing together. We should sing it as a duet, if you want to."
My eyes lit up. "I'd love to, Wise Girl."
