Xian's Point of View
Today is a Thursday and I'm here in the office. Ang schedule ko, halos walang laman. Walang meetings, walang conferences, walang anything. Nandito lang ako, nakaupo sa executive chair ko, nakatingin sa orasan, at nakatunganga. I'm waiting for 11:00am. Ilalabas ko kase si Chloe ngayon. I think it's about time I made a little effort in our dates. So I reserved us a lunch in one of my favorites restaurants in Taguig City.
Nang pumatak na ang 11:00am, agad akong lumabas ng office ko.
"Melody, may meetings pa ba ako mamaya?", tanong ko sa secretary ko na busy sa computer.
"Wala po, Sir.", sagot naman niya.
"Sige, I might not come back na. May aasikasuhin lang akong importante.", tugon ko.
"Yes, sir.", balik naman niya sa akin.
Lumabas na ako ng building namin. Tinext ko si Chloe to tell her that I was on the way to her already. Then sumakay na ako sa kotse and started driving to her.
I got here early, pero maaga namang lumabas si Chloe. We did the usual greeting. Kiss sa cheek, bubuksan ko ang pinto para sa kanya, papasok siya sa kotse, papasok ako sa kotse, then we leave.
"Where are we going today, Alex?", tanong niya sa akin with a smile. Her curiosity might kill her.
"Somewhere special.", sagot ko as I looked back at her.
"I like the sound of that.", sabi naman niya, still not letting the smile disappear.
"Uh huh. I think you do.", balik ko sa kanya.
She laughed a little.
"Well it looks like you're not telling me where we're heading anyway, so I guess it's useless to ask.", tugon niya. Maybe she was getting the hint that I was keeping the whole thing a surprise.
"Just trust me on this. You'll love the place.", I said with a grin and held her hand to make her feel safe.
For some reason, I was excited about this lunch date. Hindi pa dumadating yung signal or sign na matagal ko ng hinihintay, but I thought, what if no girl would give me that signal? I mean, I couldn't wait forever, right? And I thought, any random girl could give me that sign, but she wouldn't be the one for me, diba? So I thought maybe I should just give this a shot. It might be better for me. It might be what I always wanted. Might.
Nakarating din kami sa Aubergine Restaurant sa Taguig. This place is perfect for a romantic feel. It's a good place to start a date. It's a good place to do the moves. Yeah, the aura of a place- pogi points iyon.
"Alex, where are we?", tanong sa akin ni Chloe habang nakatingin sa restaurant sa labas.
"We're in Taguig. And this is a famous restaurant here. Never been here before?", tanong ko sa kanya.
"Uhmmmm... Ugh... No.", she said, pero may nasesense akong tension sa boses niya. Baka nervous nanaman siya.
"Hey, Chloe, it's okay. There's nothing to be worried about. You're with me anyway.", I assured her.
"Thanks, Alex.", and she went out the car, and I did the same.
She gripped a hand on my arm. And she was gripping quite tight. I looked at her. And I could feel something wrong. Yung parang ayaw niya dito. Yung parang pinipigilan niya lang ang sarili niya na maglakad papasok nung restaurant. I wanted to talk to her about it, but I just brushed off my assumptions. Nagiging asumera nanaman ako. And I already learned long ago that to assume is wrong.
So we entered the restaurant. And since my reservation ako, we had to go to the front desk.
"Good afternoon, sir. Welcome to Aubergine. How may I help you?", tanong sa akin nung lalaki na nagmamanage ng place.
