"And you're going to sit back into child's pose." Arianna dictated.
She and I were having a morning yoga session. It was quite refreshing.
The sun had just emerged from over the horizon and the ocean was quiet as a light breeze came in. Our yoga mats were next to each other as we sat back on our heels, stretching our arms forward and resting our heads on the mat.
Doing this with Arianna was always fun because she was less intense than other yoga instructors. She was actually a qualified instructor and had been for about two years. She said getting the qualification and doing the yoga herself at home was more convenient than going to a studio and booking classes.
"Remember to keep your breathing even. We're almost done." I heard her say. I kept my head down, stretching.
The sound of a vibrating phone came alive next to me. I really wanted to answer it but I also didn't want to finish before I was supposed to.
"You can answer it, we're done anyway." Arianna mumbled from beside me. I quickly sat up and took my phone, putting it to my ear.
"Hello." I greeted.
"Hey, superstar." I recognized the voice immediately.
"Alana!" I beamed. "How's my favourite manager?"
"I'm your only manager." I could imagine her rolling her eyes at me and I chuckled.
"That's not the point. But anyway, to what do I the pleasure of hearing your lovely voice?"
"I know you asked for the whole summer off..." Alana started. "But I just got wind that Catch Cosmetics is looking for a new ambassador. A little birdie told me that they're considering you, Tiana Belle and Jessica del Roy."
I bit back a gasp. Catch Cosmetics were a big deal. MAC's biggest competitors and I knew for a fact that if I was chosen to be their new ambassador that could mean big things for my career.
"Okay, well how do we beat those two?" I knew I was at a disadvantage when it came to Tiana and Jessica because Tiana was a well-known actress and Jessica not only did print modelling but she was also a runway model.
"I need you back here ASAP so we can book some shoots, do some things to get you noticed and rub shoulders with some important people." Alana instructed. I nodded as I listened, occasionally glancing over at Arianna who was texting on her phone as she periodically took sips from her water bottle.
"Okay, look, I'll get things organised here and you start making arrangements there. I want this, Alana."
"I know you do, superstar. We're gonna get this for you. Just get back here as soon as you can."
"I will, thanks for letting me know. I'll see you soon." I hung up and sighed.
"Alana?" Arianna asked. I nodded.
"I'm gonna have to go back home."
"So you're not staying here?" she asked. I shook my head, feeling bad that I was going to leave her alone. "Well, I'm glad because I actually wanted to tell you that I have to go tonight." My eyes widened in surprise.
"What?"
"Ryan's grandmother passed away and he's so hurt. I booked a flight to go up to Canada, it's where they're burying her. He asked me to go and I really want to support him, Kylie, he sounded so heartbroken." She looked down at her hands in her lap.
"Well then I guess we'll both go today, it kinda worked out." I suggested. Arianna looked up at me and offered me a weak smile. "It was fun while it lasted but," I sighed. "We're not in high school anymore, we can't take three months off from our lives to just go to the beach and do nothing." She chuckled.
