Calum wasn't too particularly fond of rain. he liked the sound and the smell, but hated how it drenched everything as well as the emotion associated with it. when he woke up to the sound of it, it made him want to roll under the covers and skip school completely. he usually had bad days when it rained and considering how he's been feeling lately about one specific person, it was just another reason to stay home. maybe if he did that, all the stress and suffering wouldn't have happened.
but nonetheless, he got up and got ready for school like always. for no other reason than pure coincidence, he dressed in all black. it was cold in addition to the rain so he wanted to be warm in school with a sweater, all of his blue jeans were in the wash or just not in his room, and he didn't want to wreck his converse in the mud so he woke biker boots. he was bringing his soccer equipment for the tryouts later anyway so it didn't really matter what he wore to school.
that was another thing that added to his affliction. it wasn't the fact that he had to try out, because he knew he was good enough to get on the team. it was the fact that he was deliberately keeping something from Flossy, something that wasn't a big deal if he came out and revealed to her. sure, she would have been upset if he told her but she would be even more upset if she found out that he was keeping it from her.
there wasn't a single second of his time that wasn't devoted to thinking about her. even when he tried not to, he looked at the simplest of things and was reminded of even the smallest of aspects related to her. the phenomenon was heightened even more when he tried to process that he was going to be in her presence soon enough. within just two months of knowing her, the accelerated heart rate, shaky limbs, and absence of focus was still evident when he was just in the same proximity as her.
and yet when Calum walked down those halls that morning and he searched through all the cliques already gathering against the lockers for her, he stopped in his tracks as he watched in horror as she reached up to grip his shoulders followed by Diff hugging her tightly against his leather jacket cloaked body while he pressed a kiss to her forehead. the display was supposed to be very intimate and yet they had no problem letting the 4,000 students in the school hallway see it.
that wasn't even what was bothering Calum about what transpired between the couple. what really dug beneath the surface and tugged at his heart strings was the fact that just a week ago she was screaming Calum's name. she reassured him that there was nothing there anymore. she was concerned when he was hurt then proceeded to heal his scars later that next day. she gave him all these outlets of hope that maybe there was some soil to plant their feelings in so that it would blossom into a beautiful relationship only for her to weed-whack the plan all together.
he pushed himself off the wall he was standing against to look at her and walked down the hallway like he was walking towards the fight of his life. he felt the anger radiate off him in waves and it didn't calm down, especially since his mind was generating pulses of ideas based on facts that were overanalyzed in the jail cell of his brain.
