Jake and company were seated beside the corner table of the cafeteria, talking about the Spring Fling that would occur tonight. They had a few laughs and giggles, while sipping on their orange juice and eating their sandwich. Jake found it funny how in the first few months of school, this table was relatively empty except for Maine and now it was buzzing with activity.

He sighed; change could be a good thing too.
"Hey, I have a game today... so don't wait for me, okay?" Jake asked his best friend who was leaning on his shoulder.

Valeen nodded as she gave out an answer "Okay, but your still picking me up tonight.. right?"

"Of course" he voiced reassuringly

"Oh haha, I forgot your the team's mascot" Jerald interjected he knocked the palm of his hand on the table with amusement.

"Shut up, okay! I have to do it for my extra curricular activities.... It's good for college!" Jake defendingly blurted.

RJ's cousin pointed at him teasingly "Oh my god, you are so MADE for this table"

A playful argument ensued between the two friends as the usually quiet corner turned into a ruckus.

Jake grabbed the mascot head on the bench 'Thank god this is the last time I have to wear you' he thought to himself with a smile before slipping it on.

Typically, the team of football players slapped his back for luck as they jogged to the field, but this time, one footballer hit her a bit too hard.

Turning his head to the culprit, it was Valeen's Ex who glared at him with a malicious smirk. Jake couldn't retaliate with the heavy cotton over him, so he just kept quiet as he followed the others to the football field.

They were well into second quarter as the boy pulled on the crook of his collar, allowing the heat to escape. It was hot inside the costume, and it didn't make it any better that he had to dance and cheer for the team. Sweating and panting, he watched as the other team made a play.

It was a perfect pass from the center to the quarterback, as the team captain flawlessly swerved and maneuvered his way, in search for an opening. Number 23 for the team was desperately trying to infiltrate the line as the man pushed and pulled the others for a break.

Finding a little hole in the formation, he slipped passed them and headed for the quarterback. The man with the football sensed him, and so made for a quick getaway.

They two were now running towards him, the quarterback frantically trying to flee from the man, while Number 23 was wildly chasing after him. Jake's heart sank as his feet stood there frozen, brain just piecing the puzzle together. It was too late.

Impact.

The two had accidentally rammed in to him, as he hurdled over the air from the sheer force of the collision. Jake plummeted to the ground, his left arm striking the metal bench that was situated beside him.

At first, he didn't feel anything, until the sharp pain enveloped his arm. Jake clenched his jaw as he laid there, motionless and in agony. The people were already starting to crowd beside him, as the coach frantically dialed the police to get an ambulance.

RJ, Jerald and Maine were inside the Jerald's residence. They weren't even dressed for the Spring Fling yet, as the trio were too busy chatting away inside the living room. They didn't care though, they had an hour to get ready anyways.

RJ's cousin laid on the couch with a carefree expression as he munched on a granola bar "Uy, may pagkain kaya dun?" He asked.

Maine shrugged before flashing her a smile "I'm not sure, but I guess there will be"
"Better, or else I went for nothing" the boy retorted
