An hour and a half into the operation and RJ, Mr.Mendoza and Coleen were all apprehensively waiting for the news regarding Maine's surgery.
It was quiet inside the waiting room, except for the clock ticking away and the loud beat of their hearts.
'Asan kya si Louise?' RJ wondered as he rubbed the sweat off his palms. His best friend said she would be here, for him, for Maine, for everyone.
In the most emotionally draining time of RJ's life, the girl was nowhere to be found.
"Asan po si Louise?" RJ asked for the third time to Mr.Mendoza.
He shrugged before replying "She said she had somewhere to go, did you try calling her?"
"I did, but she won't answer" he cried
"Well, try later"
With a sigh RJ nodded before looking around the room again.
It was too white, everything was too white. The walls were white, the chairs were white, the blinds were white. He never knew such a color could prove so suffocating.
There was a television hanging on a corner of a wall, set to the local news. It was probably there to entertain, though who would watch T.V at such a dire situation?
"I'm here with a student who claims to make paper airplanes fly" The news woman started as she stared blankly at the camera.
"Well, yes.. kind of" the boy voiced."Please tell us about it" she prompted before placing the mic in front of the student's lips. "Well, I designed a paper airplane to parallel a real one. I first took into account the aerodynamics, thrust and lift, drag and gravity. And I designed it as such, that everything is in equilibrium" he stated matter-of-factly.
"Go on" The news woman pressed "If the wind is just right, it'll pick up the plane and force it to hover above ground. Think of it as a kite, with the right wind propulsion, my paper airplane can stay above ground for an average of three full hours"
RJ tried to breathe as he clutched on the arm chair tightly. Just when he needed time to run faster, it does the exact opposite.
"Uhh... Sir?" A nurse cried out from behind a door Instinctively, he shot up from his seat before gazing at her with worrying eyes "Yes?"
"Sumama po kayo sakin" the woman retorted.
"Is it about Maine? Is she okay?" He panicked, shooting questions left and right as his heart quickened.
"No, no, it's something else" the nurse reassured.
Mr.Mendoza coughed as he stared at the middle-aged woman "Do you need me too?"
"It would be better if you wait here for any news on your daughter" she responded with a comforting smile. With a cautious expression, RJ glanced back at Maine's father who gave an approving nod.
"Okay" he muttered reluctantly before following the nurse out of the waiting room.

The woman sighed as if burdened with vast weights on her shoulders "You'll hear it soon enough" she muttered in an irritated tone.
'Hear it?' RJ thought as he arched an eyebrow.
