One horrible tragic event brought me together to a wonderful incredible person (people).

It was a typical normal day for me actually (except it was my 18th birthday). My mom was drinking and smoking 25/8 , and my dad was off having affairs with other women and gambling his pathetic life away. And I was left with my 13 year old sister, Alevia, in our little rusty apartment. The only reason we don't have i guess "money" is because like I said my dad gambles, but hey,I never said he was good. Im not sure why my dad began doing affairs. But I do know why/how his gambling addiction started, when my dad was fired from his job as the drummer for a local band called The Golays a little while back, he loved his job, and felt like he couldn't get another job. My mom on the other hand, works at the Syto Event Center, its a place where theres usually sport events, concerts, live shows ect. My mom is the head security guard. My mom's addiction all started when she found out about one of my dads affairs for the first time. My parents refuse to accept the fact that our family is broken and messed up. So they try their hardest for us  to have fun as a family by doing cheesy family things. They always end up fighting 10 minutes into our "family fun time".

No surprise, they forgot my birthday again, third year in a row. I was locked in my room, and was listening to melanie martinez, I heard a knock on the door, "who is it?" I asked praying it wasn't my parents. "its me" said Alevia, thank god. I stood up to go unlock the door. She was standing with a small red velvet cupcake, with black frosting, and white frosting and a candle that had a black and white "18". "Happy birthday Lux" she said cheerfully. "Thank you so much Ale!!" I said giving her a hug. "You don't deserve this" said Alevia. "Deserve what?" I responded. "You don't deserve them not forgetting your birthday dude" she responds. "Oh well yeah, I mean, I guess, I don't know, they're both off in their own little worlds" I say. "Well fuck them" said Alevia laughing. "Alevia! Shut up don't say that! Yeah they're pretty bad parents, but they're still you're parents!!" I said chuckling.

"Lux! get your ass down here" screams my mom. Ughhh you've gotta be kidding me. "Yes mom?" I respond. I go  downstairs to the kitchen, and she's smoking her Camel cigarettes and drinking her Jack Daniels. Oh my gosh, it freaking stinks."Put on your shoes, and tell Alevia to put hers on too, we're going for a walk downtown, we're gonna go to that burger joint you like, and go shopping for your birthday." she said, Oh well, hey, that's actually really nice from her I guess she didn't forget after all. "Oh, wow, thanks mom I thought you forgot my birthday again" I said shyly. She was very hesitant, "Oh- uh, of course not hun!" she said. I stared at her for a while. "Alevia reminded you didn't she?" I asked curiously. "Yes, uh, she did im so sorry baby girl" she said trying to sound apologetic.
