Later that night, while we were watching the Grinch, Peter got a phone call. His face turned to worry. He immediately got up and ran into his room. I got up from the couch to see what he was doing.
"What's going on?" I ask as he gets changed into sweats and a sweater. He takes out his contacts and puts on his glasses.
"Josh is in the hospital. Apparently he's in a fatal state so, I need to go up there. I'm sorry." Peter explains. I then grab one of his heavy sweaters before running into my room and grabbing my boots and phone. I then walk back into his room. "What are you doing?"
"I'm going with you just in case." I explain before he grabs his keys.
We then head out to the car and head to the hospital. Peter held onto my hand the entire ride there. He held on so tight it hurt a little, but I knew he was terrified. He was terrified for his best friend's life. Once we get there we immediately rush up to the trauma room Josh was in. Heidi was standing right in front of the door.
"They won't let us in." she says as she starts crying more. "What if he doesn't live?"
"It'll be okay. What happened anyways?" I ask hugging Heidi.
"He was driving over to home after being at the store for the evening. Next thing I know, I'm getting a phone call from the hospital saying he was getting admitted after ramming into a tree and it landing on the car." Heidi says before crying even harder.
One of the doctors walks out of the room. "Hi, I'm doctor Brown. Are you Josh's friends?" he asks.
"Yes. He is going to be alright?" Peter asks.
"Yes, we just need to send him into cardio surgery. He fractured many ribs and from the looks of the car the tree didn't hit his head. He did suffer a minor concussion so, after the surgery we're going to keep him here until he passes the concussion test."
"Is he conscious right now?" I ask.
"Can we see him right now?" Heidi asks.
"Yes and some of the belongings we recovered from the accident are in there as well."
All three of us rush into the room. Heidi immediately runs over to Josh's side and starts kissing him and hugging him while Peter stands to the side and waits for the P.D.A. to stop before hugging his best friend.
"Heidi, can you bring me that paper bag over by my jacket please?" Josh says before Heidi walks over and grabs the bag. She hands the bag to Josh before he starts looking for something in the bag. "Heidi, it's been a rocking the years of college with you by my side. What I went out to get I knew would almost kill me. So will you be by my side the rest of our lives?" Josh then pulls out a box and opens it to show a diamond ring.
"Yes!" Heidi yells before Peter and I walk out to give the two some privacy.
"Unexpected?" I ask Peter.
"No, he's been talking about doing that for weeks." he explains.
"They're so young."
"Eh, he only did it because he wants to start a family already and she doesn't want to until they get married. So, there they are."
"Help!" I hear Heidi yell. Running in are the nurses, doctors, and interns into the room.
"He's seizing. Get her out! We need to start the procedure now. Get an O.R. ready!" I hear multiple people yell.
Heidi is then rushed out of the room while Peter tries to push himself into the room.
"Sir, we need you out of the room." one of the nurses says trying to push Peter back out of the room.
