A few weeks pass and it's finally my last day working at the Olive Garden. Immediately, I get up at my usual time, put on my usual black button up and slacks, put my hair in a bun, then leave. I get in my car before heading to the restaurant. I park in my usual spot. In the parking garage across the street above the bank. I then walk into the building and put on my hip apron. I wipe down the tables and take down the chairs before waiting for time to open. Once customers start running in, anticipation builds up.
"Since today is Delilah's last day, what do you say, make a bet to see who can get the most customers today? Winner gets to take home a bag of breadsticks paid by the losers." Tiffany suggests to Ben and I.
"You're on." I say before we all shake hands.
The entire time, we kept track of how many customers we had. We checked in at lunch.
"Fifty three." Ben says.
"Thirty six." I say.
"Fourty eight." Tiffany says before lighting her cigarette. She offers both of us one as well. "Come on, Delilah, today is your last day."
"No, I'm good. Besides, I think Jim in the kitchen is already sneaking me a bottle of wine into my farewell bag." I say before head back to work.
My customers kept coming and going while Tiffany and Ben started seeing less. They gave me bonus points for serving an elderly couple. At the end of the shift, we all met at our register.
"One hundred seventy five." Ben says.
"Two hundred and six." Tiffany says.
"Two hundred eighty one." I say.
Both of them pay for a bag of bread sticks at our register before they grab a bag and put it in my farewell bag.
"Jim put in the two good wines." Ben says.
"Which ones?" I ask.
"Moscato and Roscato. You'll enjoy them both."
"I'll take note of that. Thanks you guys it was great working with you guys." I say before hugging Ben and Tiffany.
"You still up for a date?" Ben asks.
"Text or call me. Then I'll let you know." I say before heading to my car.
I get in before setting the bag inthe passenger seat. Once I get to the apartment complex I take in a deep breath before getting out. I walk upstairs and I'm just full of excitement. I get to the apartment and Peter is sitting on the couch in just his sweats while playing video games.
"I have a surprise." I say.
"I have one too." he says before holding out a letter.
"I've got breadsticks and wine." I say before opening the letter. It was my schedule. At the top it had tomorrow's date stating that be my first day of classes. "Oh my god!" I yell before Peter stands up and gives me a kiss.
"Now whose surprise is better?" he says taking the bag out of my hand and walking into the kitchen. He pulls out the bottle of moscato and pours it into two glasses. While I run into my room and change into just a sports bra and sweats. I then run out and take my hair out of my pony tail. "Jeez, I should surprise you more often."
"Why? So you can see me in my bra more often?" I laugh.
"No, because you're in such a good mood now."
"Whatever. Hand me my glass, god damn it." I say laughing before he hands me my glass. He then lets me turn on Grey's Anatomy. "I can't promise that in the future I won't leave you for McDreamy."
