Chapter Five

I had eight hours to learn the entire musical. The whole cast got together to run through the musical two times with me, both times went pretty well, I've always been a quick learner, a good trait to have as an actor. It was now eight o'clock. I went back to wardrobe, Phillipa and I were virtually the exact same size in clothing so I went to hair and makeup. Lin came in the room while the hairstylist was straightening my hair.

"So I talked to Vanessa, my wife, about your situation-."
"Lin, it's fine, the world can know I'm pregnant, just not Brandon." I interrupted.
"Okay, anyways, Vanessa said she can take you to the clinic in the morning if you'd like her too," he said.
"Will you go too?" I asked.
"Of course, if that's what you want," he replied.
"You're just, the first real friend I've made here. You're the first one I told," I said, getting teary eyed.
"Don't cry you'll smudge your makeup," The guy doing my hair said. Lin and I laughed.
"TEN MINUTES!" The stage manager came in and yelled.

The stylist had just finished my hair, Lin and I went down to wardrobe where we put on our first costumes. I started trembling as we were called to get into our places. The whole cast got in a big huddle backstage. We did a little prayer type thing and then went to our places. I was told good luck a hundred times on the way to my cue.

The house lights went down and the song started. I began bouncing up and down backstage trying to calm my nerves as my part for the first song drew nearer and nearer. I walked out onstage. It was dark but I was supposed to walk into the light next to all the guys and Lin. And then I sang,

"When he was ten his father split, full of it debt ridden, two years later see Alex and his mother bed ridden half dead, sitting in their own sick the scent thick, and Alex got better but his mother went quick."

It was incredible to say the least. The feeling I got while I sang on a BROADWAY stage was amazing. My lungs were filled with air as every note flew out of my mouth in perfect harmony. I gave it my all and the crowd seemed to love it. Lin looked at me and smiled just before we transferred into the high volume end of the song when Alex goes to New York. It's an unexplainable feeling. Transferring from my local theatre to Broadway within a year. Right now, in this moment aside from the fact that I'm pregnant, I'm exactly who I've always wanted to be, young, scrappy, and hungry.

By the end of the show I was exhausted mentally and physically but for the last number I gave everything I had left. At the end the cast joined in one long line and took a bow. The crowd gave a standing ovation and cheered as we bowed. Lin hugged me right before we walked off stage.

"Are you happy you said yes?" Lin asked me backstage.
"I'm overjoyed. Thank you so much Lin, this has been the greatest experience of my life," I replied. He hugged me again.
"I'm pretty sure Phillipa is going to be out two more days," he said.
"I'm in," I replied. Lin gave me a bear hug. "You're squishing me."
"Oh I'm sorry. And I'm sorry little one," he said to my belly.
"Do you think we'll find out what it is tomorrow?" I asked.
"I have no idea. Do you know when you would've conceived?" He asked.
"Actually I have no idea. I've felt sick for awhile now," I replied.
"You just thought it was a stomach bug?" He asked.
"Yeah," I admitted.
"When V and I found out she was pregnant with Sebastian we had been trying for awhile and she pretty much taken a home test every day. He's the best thing that's ever happened to us," Lin said.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"Yeah," he replied. "Let's go get changed and then I'll take you home."
"Okay," I agreed.

The next morning I woke early to go to the doctor. I told Brandon I was going for an annual check up. Lin sent me a text saying he was here so I grabbed my purse and went outside where he and Vanessa were waiting in their car. I noticed Sebastian was in the back when I crawled in and sat next to him.

"Vanessa you remember Saint?" Lin asked.
"Of course, it's nice to see you again honey," She said.
"You too, and I can't say I've met Sebastian," I replied. Sebastian was sound sleep in his car seat.
"Alright, shall we?" Lin asked.
"We shall," Vanessa replied.

We got to the clinic, Vanessa helped me get checked in while Lin took Sebastian to a little play area.

"He's a great dad," I said to Vanessa while she helped me fill out some paperwork.
"The best. Even though he's so busy with the musical, he still spends so much time with his son. He's an incredible father. How has your boyfriend reacted?" She asked.
"Actually, he doesn't know. I just found out yesterday and I haven't had the heart to tell him, he's getting so far in his career and you know, a musician can't be a good father. He'll be on the road so much he won't be apart of any of it," I replied.
"Yes, but he is the father and he has a legal obligation to know, and you have the obligation to tell him," she said.
"You're right," I replied.

I was called into a room within twenty minutes. Vanessa stayed in the waiting room while Lin came back with me. The nurse did a quick vital check and blood test. She asked me a few questions and then quickly left the room. Lin looked at me.

"What?" I asked.
"I just remembered when I was in a room like this with Vanessa, she's such a good mother and I'm lucky to have her as my wife," Lin replied.
"Funny, she just said the same type of stuff about you," I said. Lin had the biggest smile on his face. "You guys have such a storybook romance." He chuckled.
"Yeah," he replied. We were interrupted by the doctor coming in the room.
"Hello Miss Ayala, I have your test results, you are pregnant. And you're about 16 weeks along-."
"Sixteen weeks?" I asked completely mind blown and confused.
"How would she have gone this long without knowing?" Lin asked.
"Some women have late symptoms and some can continue having period like symptoms, all pregnancies are different. We can actually find out the sex today if you'd like," The doctor said. I was in shock. I didn't speak.
"Saint," Lin said. I snapped back into reality.
"I.. Um.. Yes.. I'd like to know the gender," I spoke.
"I'll just ask you to lie back and lift up your shirt," the doctor said. I looked at Lin, he grabbed my hand and nodded. I did as the doctor said. He put a cold blue jelly on my stomach and put then pushed the ultrasound remote around. I looked up at the little screen as the image of my child popped up. "There's its head, there's its arms and legs. It looks like you're having a little girl Miss Ayala." He pushed a button and the sound of my baby girl's heart beat filled the room.
"A girl is good." I started crying. "Saint," Lin said, his voice warm, soft, and comforting.
"The baby is about the size of an avocado. She's a good weight and she looks perfectly healthy. Now I'm going to prescribe he best prenatal vitamins and I'll get you a list of some need to know health things since this is obviously your first child. I'll be back. Congrats mom and dad," the doc said just before he left.
"Oh I'm not the-." Lin was interrupted by the door shutting. Lin handed me a couple tissues to wipe the blue jelly off my stomach.
"I'm not even showing," I said as I looked at my stomach. I pulled my shirt down and sat up, looking at Lin.
"It will all be okay. Are you going to tell your parents?" Lin asked.
"I don't have a dad, anymore anyways. And my mother might kill me so I'd rather avoid hurricane mother at all costs," I replied.
"You don't have a father?" He asked.
"Well, I did. He passed away two years ago. He missed the birth of his last child," I replied.
"I thought you were an only child," Lin said.
"I'm the oldest of five. Two little sisters, two little brothers," I replied.
"They're all out in Arizona?" He asked.
"Yeah, but my moms going to move everyone back to Hawaii, that's where I was born and where my parents met but we moved to Arizona for my dads work. Now that he's gone it's easier for her to raise the last four kids with her parents. You know she and my dad had me when they were eighteen? My brother Kai is twelve, my sister Maria is eight, my other sister Mona is five, and then my youngest brother Kale is two now," I replied.
"You should still tell her," Lin said.
"I will, as soon as she's back in Hawaii and we're in completely different time zones," I teased. Lin and I shared a laugh.

I eventually got back home. And later that night was my second performance of Hamilton. Lin was such a good sport about my whole situation. It was nice to have such a good friend. I just hope Brandon and my mother take the pregnancy news as well as Lin.
