Chapter Ten
We were now in the attic. My mother went and moved around some boxes, revealing a white and pink floral crib.
"This was Maria and Mona's when they were babies," I said.
"And it was yours," she said.
"I didn't know that," I replied.
"I'll have uncle Keoni come over and take it apart so I can send it in the mail. I have boxes and boxes of you and your sister's clothes from when you were babies. I've got some clothes as well if you'd like, there's only three boxes full. There's all kinds of stuff, burp rags, nursing covers, changing mats, ooh there's a nice diaper bag in one of them," she said. She opened one of the boxes. "Oh goodness. Look! It's your first bikini!" She pulled out a seashell bikini top with grass skirt bottoms. I burst into a fit of laughter
"You did not make me wear that. Did you?" I asked.
"Of course I did silly!" she replied.I stayed with my family for a whole week until I had to go back to New York. My mom's only sibling, her brother Keoni had come over to help us ship the boxes of baby clothes and supplies. He was able to take down the crib and ship it as well, that was the second day I was here. It should be to Lin's by the time I got back. I told my mother all about Lin, and about Chris, who I've been ignoring for some reason. My mom drove me to the airport while Keoni watched the kids. She walked me right up my terminal.
"Make sure you call," she said while she hugged me.
"I will. Are you going to be able to come to New York when Coral is born?" I asked.
"I'd love to, and I'll try my hardest. But finding someone who wants to watch four kids is tough. I'll let you know what I can do," she replied
"Okay, her due date is September 8th," I said. She hugged me again.
"I love you baby," she said.
"I love you too momma," I replied. Final call came over the PA system for my flight. My mother handed me my suitcase. "I'll see you later." She smiled and waved as I walked away. But soon enough I was back on the plane going home to New York, going home to Lin.My flight landed in New York around 7am. I walked to baggage claim where I saw Lin, Vanessa, and Sebastian waiting, they had already gotten my suitcase. I walked towards them smiling. Lin pulled me into the worlds tightest hug.
"I missed you," he said, his voice muffled by my hair.
"I missed you too, all of you," I replied, breaking the hug. Sebastian was smiling and trying to break free of his mother's arms. She handed him to me and I hugged him tight then I hugged Vanessa.
"You're so tan," she said.
"The sun is so fierce there, I hope you all can go someday," I replied.
"That would be lovely," Vanessa said. Sebastian went back to his mother, Lin grabbed my suitcase, and then we went home. When we arrived home, I noticed Chris waiting. He sat on the stairs leading to the townhouse.
"He came here yesterday and I told him you'd get back today," Lin said as he parked the car. Vanessa came to the back and got Sebastian. I stepped out of the car and approached Chris, he stood up. Lin walked past, he took my suitcase inside. Vanessa walked past carrying Sebastian. Chris looked me up and down.
"You look really good," he said. I smiled.
"Thank you," I replied.
"Why didn't you say anything about your trip?" he asked.
"It was a last minute thing, I'm sorry," I replied.
"I called and texted though," he said.
"I know, I'm sorry, I didn't really talk to anyone except-."
"Except for Lin," Chris interrupted me.
"Yeah," I said.
"Well, I'd like to go out to dinner and hear all about your trip. How's this Saturday?" He asked.
"Saturday is wonderful, and I'm sorry, its been a tough week," I admitted. Chris pulled me in for a hug.
"It's fine," he whispered. We released from the hug. Chris was looking at me and I was looking at him. He leaned in, so did I, our lips met and exploded with an electrifying passion. "I'll see you Saturday," he said just before he walked away. I put my hand to my lips,
"Woah."
