Chapter Six

It was the same day, the performance ended. I had just finished gathering my things when Lin came into my, or Phillipa's, dressing room.

"Phillipa's out for one more day," he said.
"I'm so sorry for her. I was wondering though if I could get a ticket for Brandon to see the show tomorrow?" I asked.
"Of course, I can't wait for him to see it," Lin replied.
"I'd better be going, Brandon's band mates are coming over for dinner," I said.
"Can I give you a ride?" Lin asked.
"No thanks, I'd like to walk. I'll see you back here at 6:30?" I asked.
"Yes ma'am," Lin replied.
"Okay, I'll see you later," I said.

I made it home just as the pizza delivery man arrived with three pizzas. I paid the man and then took the pizzas up to the apartment. Brandon and the band were sitting in the living room talking and drinking beers.

"Saint!" Brandon cheered. He came up to me and gave me a kiss.
"Whats all this about?" I asked.
"We're going on tour!" All four of the guys cheered.
"What? Tour?" I asked.
"Yeah, we're going on a tour across the US and Canada," Brandon replied.
"When do you leave?" I asked.
"Tomorrow morning," One of his band mates replied.
"Tomorrow morning?" I asked.
"Yes, Saint. What's wrong?" Brandon asked. I took the pizzas to the kitchen and put them on the counter. Brandon followed me. "Saint?"
"It's just so sudden and I got you a ticket to see Hamilton tomorrow night," I replied.
"Isn't there a showing tonight?" He asked.
"Yes but it's completely sold out. They gave out the last tickets in the show's lottery earlier. Your ticket is for tomorrow night," I replied.
"Come on Saint? Tour vs seeing Hamilton? This tour is going to make Heathens famous! We can't pass up this opportunity just so I can see your little show," Brandon said laughing.
"I'm pregnant Brandon," I said.
"You're what?" He asked.
"I'm pregnant and if you leave, don't expect me or your child to be here when you get back," I replied.
"I can't believe you would do that to me! You of all people should know how important this tour is to me! I've worked my whole life to get to where I am now. It's six months Saint!" He yelled.
"The baby will be here in five," I mumbled, tears streaming down my face.
"I can't give this up," he said.
"I need you here for me and our daughter," I cried.
"I can't be here," Brandon replied. I wiped the tears from my eyes.
"Then I think we should break up," I said, my voice firm. Brandon was crying now too.
"If that's what you want," he said. He wiped his eyes. "You can stay here until I get back." I nodded, grabbed my purse, and then left the apartment.

I walked back to the theatre and got back just as Lin was about to leave. He smiled when he saw me but then he realized I was crying. He pulled me into his arms as I cried. He stroked the back of my hair.

"It'll be okay, I promise," Lin whispered into my hair. He took my hand and led me to his car. He began driving, I didn't know where to. But we eventually parked in front of a cute townhouse. He got out of the car and then came to my side, helping me out. We walked up the stairs to the house, he opened the door, and then we walked inside. I could hear children's cartoons in one room and could smell something cooking from the kitchen. The door shut behind us and Vanessa appeared from the room to our right.

"Saint!" She cheered. She noticed I was upset. She looked at Lin, nodded and then escaped down the hall to the kitchen. Lin led me into the living room. Sebastian was sitting in front of the tv playing with trains while watching a tv show about trains. I sat down on the couch and watched Sebastian. Lin sat next to me after greeting his son.

"Will I be as good of a parent as you and Vanessa?" I asked. I laid my head on Lin's shoulder.
"You're going to be an amazing mother, no matter if Brandon is here to help or not. Because you know what? I'm here, and so is Vanessa. We're here to help you in any way we can," Lin assured me. Vanessa came back into the room.
"Dinner is ready," she said. Sebastian jumped up and ran past his mother to the kitchen. I stood from the couch, Lin did too. We walked to the kitchen where Vanessa had made lasagna.

"It smells wonderful V," Lin said. He kissed her cheek and then sat across the table from her. I sat across from Sebastian who was in his high chair. His mother had already cut up some food for her son. His face was already covered with pasta sauce, he'd just recently turned a year old. Lin filled a plate of food and set it in front of me. "Eat." He said. I looked at him and didn't speak.
"If you don't eat it you'll make me cry," Vanessa teased. Lin chuckled as he forked some lasagna into his mouth. I cracked a smile and began eating, my rumbling stomach was soon to be a thing of the past.
"Thank you for inviting me to dinner," I said.
"You're welcome anytime," Vanessa assured me.

Later that night Lin and I were back at the theatre for another show. It was almost perfect, I loved being in the show. I had one more performance of Hamilton after this and then I was done for good as Phillipa would be back. Lin mentioned something about me becoming Phillipas permanent understudy since the other one was out and would be gone for awhile. To prove to him I could do it, I'll have to make these last two performances count.
