~With Florida

“I thought you said other people had detention, too!?” Florida growled, folding her arms and leaning back into her chair. Spain took another bite of his tomato and shrugged. “I don’t know, senorita. I don’t think they’re coming anymore.”

Florida didn’t look convinced. Underneath her desk, she slid out her phone and texted New Mexico.

‘Hey, NM!

Where’s detention?’

She waited, turning off the ringer and the vibration on her phone. The return message came quickly.

‘Hey, Florida!

How would I know, though? You realize I have not seen Texas from morning? I am trouble free! Ah~ I was going to go UFO watching later! Want to come!? Others will be there! Alaska will be there! You know how little we get to see Alaska.’

Florida frowned. Leave it to New Mexico to get too cheery in this situation. Had she even noticed she was asking about detention? Someone like Pennsylvania might have asked why she wanted to know. Of course, all her fellow states were too different to understand all at once.

Suddenly, the cellphone was snatched out of Florida’s hands. “What the hell!?” Florida snapped. Spain frowned, dangling the small object in front of his face. “You realize you shouldn’t have this right?” he questioned. Walking back to his desk, Spain threw the phone into his bag. “I’ll just keep that until tomorrow.”

Florida jumped up immediately, trying to reach her phone. Spain wrapped his arms around her waist and placed her in a chair. “You can’t do that.” He said, ruffling her hair. “It’s so cute that you’d try, though.”

Florida huffed, aiming to kick Spain’s legs. Spain cringed when she landed a good blow on his knee. He frowned. “Mi querida, why did you kick me?”

“You stole my phone!”

Spain smiled, sitting on the floor. “Correction! I legally stole your phone. Why are you so desperate to get it back? Do you have something to hide?”

Florida’s face paled as Spain leaned over. “Don’t worry, mi amor, I respect your personal space…most of the time…or at least a good quarter of the time.” He said thoughtfully. “Aye~ I don’t remember which one.”

“Try never!” Florida hissed. Spain grinned, scratching the back of his head. “Am I really that nosy?”

“Yes.”

“Well…lo siento.” Spain said, clapping his hands together. He grinned. “You can eat lunch now.” Florida’s stomach grumbled on cue and she frowned. “I didn’t buy lunch because you kept me in here!” she snarled.

Spain laughed. “That’s okay. No problem! I’ll just share with you.” He pulled out a two churros. Florida raised an eyebrow. Did he always pack two? Spain continued pulling out food. Florida bitterly noticed that everything was in twos. Spain smiled. “It’s all Spanish. Then again, you wouldn’t mind. You’re basically Spanish yourself!”

Florida rolled her eyes, taking a random food wrapped in foil. She examined it carefully before taking a bite. Unsurprisingly, it was tasty. Florida found herself devouring the food without any remembrance of Spain’s presence. She even licked her fingers before stopping, seeing Spain about to laugh.

Florida frowned, but didn’t stop. “Look. Away.” She hissed. Spain chuckled. “You’ve always loved my cooking…” he said fondly. Florida snorted, turning away. “I have. Though, not necessarily your cooking…just the Spanish cuisine itself.” She muttered.
