"Alright! Class dismissed!"
The sighs of relief echoed across the classroom.
You pack your things and before you can leave, Iruka-sensei calls you.
You walk over to him and he rubs his neck, grinning.
"Heh, um sorry about Kiba and the others."
You smile up at him.
"It's okay. It's just nice to know that some people are at least kind enough to help out."
He blinks.
"Oh you must mean the boy who helped you."
You nod.
"What's his name."
"Well it's-"
"Iruka-sensei please come quick! One of the students has taken the books again!"
You both turn to the panting figure in the doorway.
'Must be another sensei' you thought
Iruka clicked his tongue and turned to you.
"Sorry _____, I'll have to talk to you later."
You nod and bow.
"It's okay sensei. I must meet with the Hokage anyways."
He lays a hand on your shoulder and smiles warmly before he dashes off, the other teacher after him.
You walk outside to the other kids who are either getting lead home by their parents or and playing around while waiting for them.
You look at a lone swing and decided to go and sit on it.
Truth be told, you never knew how to swing.
You were never taught due to the fact you were never outside much.
The wind pushes you lightly and you look down at your feet.
You hear now familiar voices and you look up to see Kiba, a chubby kid, Naruto and the boy who helped you earlier.
Kiba and the chubby kid were on the swings, talking to Naruto who was standing by the slide while the boy went up and down the slide.
You smiled. They all look so care free.
Like nothing could ever bring them down or hurt them.
"Choji! Time to go!"
"Kiba! Akamaru is waiting at home!"
You and the two boys turn to look at the figures who called their names.
The woman was the spitting image of Kiba with wild hair and markings on both of her cheeks. Choji, the chubby kid you guess, looked like the bigger man but he had longer hair and different markings.
They leave and Naruto has a distant look in his eyes but it suddenly vanished when the boy began talking.
You decide to walk over to them.
Naruto notices you first.
"Oh! Hey_____!"
The boy looks at you.
"Hello Naruto."
Just as you were about to say something, Saskue calls Naruto over and he runs off.
The silence was awkward and longer.
You were the first to speak.
"Um, I just wanted to say thank you for earlier."
He gets off the slide and digs his pinkie in his ear.
"Sure whatever. Just don't do it again. Like I said, I won't be there the next time you need saving."
You nod and the boy looks at you again.
"Shouldn't your parents have picked you up by now?"
You freeze.
"Well maybe not, I may have to walk home."
You look up at him.
"Wait, what about you? Where are yours?"
He sighs and shoves his hands in his pockets.
"My dad's always late. It's a drag to wait here though."
You two just look at eachother for a little bit.
"Well, I guess i never introduced myself. My name's-"
You gasp, "Shikaku!?"
The boy whips around his head fast and the towering figure stood behind him.
"Finally, Dad"
Now you know why the boy looked so familiar, he was the son of Shikaku Nara.
"How do you know him."
You look back at the boy.
"Um..Well-"
"I escorted ______ to the academy today and greeted her when she came to the village."
You let out a huge sigh of relief and the boy turns to his father.
"You never told me all of this."
"I don't tell you about a lot of things."
The boy only rolls his eyes.
"Let's go now. You know how your mother is when we're late."
The boy grumbles and crosses his arms behind his head, "Women are such a drag."
Now it was your turn to roll your eyes.
The boy suddenly sticks out his hand which surprises you and his father.
"Like I said, I never gave a proper introduction."
You blink and take his hand.
He shakes it and says,
"My name's Shikamaru Nara of the Nara clan."
He smirks at you and you giggle.
Shikaku takes his son down the steps and you watch them go.
Shikamaru turns around to look at you and you blush.
He grins and turns back around, taking one hand out of his pocket and puts it in the air.
You smile and wave back.
"Shikamaru..."
The name felt familiar yet, unfamiliar.
You didn't let that bother for you had a feeling this was a new beginning to a great friendship.
