The next morning Toni woke up to a warm body pressed against her. That combined with the splitting headache and nausea and it wasn’t hard to work out that ‘drunk her’ had made some stupid decisions last night.
She got out of the bed and noticed she was in warm sweatpants and a massive t-shirt, but when she saw Cade’s bare chest still in the bed she freaked out a little. She had little memory of what had happened last night, but she was pretty sure she had kissed him. What had happened after that? Where was she?
Given the wave of nausea that was threatening to spill over at any moment, she was more interested in finding a bathroom. She stepped out into the hallway and
opened all of the doors she saw. Finally she found it at the end of the hallway in time to lose her stomach. She was disgusted in herself to see it was all liquid.
At one stage she felt Cade come in and he held her hair back until the worst of it was over. Then she almost kissed him again when he handed her a new toothbrush still in its packaging, a glass of water and some painkillers.
She had again noticed that he still hadn’t put a shirt on, so she shooed him out of the bathroom and cleaned herself up.
When she emerged and followed the delicious smell, she found the kitchen where a fully dressed, Cade was frying bacon, eggs and sausages.
“I’m so sorry…” She started.
“Don’t worry about it, we had fun.” He laughed as she sat at the breakfast bar and placed her head in her hands.
When she finally looked up, she whispered “did we…?” while gesturing between them.
“No, though I put you to bed in the spare bed and you woke me up in the middle of the night when you hopped in with me. Seriously, don’t worry. And I only had to carry you up the first three flights of stairs; you demanded that you should crawl up the last two. What was even funnier was when you realised that it had burnt your knees on the carpets and you sat at the top and complained for about 10 minutes until you decided you needed more clothes.” He smiled at the memory. “I should have gotten out the camera, but that’s pretty much all you did. So don’t worry, a totally harmless night of fun, yeah?”
"Can I ask...? Were you serious last night when you suggested we break them up?"
Though she was looking away he knew the vulnerability that shone in her eyes.
"If it’s what you want..."
He knew he was in trouble. His feelings for her had escalated to the point where he was willing to do anything for her and he had barely even known her for a month.
"How are we going to do it?"
"Same way I suggested last night."
She looked at him with her eyebrows raised. "Are you sure you want to do this?"
"I've always wanted to do this." The words that left his mouth completely at odds with the repulsive shudder down his spine.
She was shocked to discover that jealousy ran through her veins, but habit told her that she still wanted Nate. Her feelings so confused her, that when he placed a camera down beside her, she jumped.
"What's this?"
"She's coming over tonight for drinks." He looked at her. "Nate isn't coming. No better time to start than now."
"Ok, um, what time is she going to be here?"
"We'll it's about 2pm now, she's going to be here about 6."
