As she opened the door suitably clean faced and feeling better she saw that Sam
had still not vacated her seat. She had assumed that Cade would have sent him away
by now. As she took in the scene before her she recognised the intent in his eyes
moments before his fist connected with Sam's cheek and then it was too late.
As he drew his arm back preparing to hit again she all but leapt over the other
diners in her way to stop him, but however much she tried to break them apart Cade
had managed to get several well aimed hits. Even Sam had gotten in one hit judging
from the cut across Cade's cheek.
She had stepped between them which had effectively ended their tussle but the
majority of the damage had been done. Their table was overturned and plates, glass
and food littered the immediate area. The others diners had all stopped eating to stare
at them and some had even gone so far as to get up and leave.
So, with all eyes on them she grabbed his arm and steered him toward the exit.
Cade had embarrassed her, yes, but she was more concerned that he may have hurt
himself. She took another glance down at his hand as he wiped it on his dusty shirt and
cringed at the trail of blood it had left behind. She wasn't a medical student, but
judging from the blood that was now dripping from his hand, he needed to get that
treated.
"I'm sorry, you know, for anything you might still feel for that guy. He wasn't worth
it, what a douche." Cade looked at her with genuine sorrow in his eyes as a bright
smile lit up her face. "That's all right, I knew he would get smacked eventually, I just didn't think it would
be right there, right then, in the middle of that relatively small restaurant, in front of all
those people."
She took a moment to sneak a peek at his hand again and it looked absolutely
awful. The skin was torn back in places, knuckles bared, and pieces of bone pressing
through the mangled flesh. The skin itself had become a disgusting shade of
blue/green/black and blood continued to pour through.
"But, maybe you didn't need to do that much damage?"
"Oh, right. I didn't feel it was happening, probably from all the adrenaline. It might
be quite sissy to admit this, but it's kind of really starting to hurt."
"You think? Come on, let get you to a hospital." So she grabbed his keys out of his
pocket and walked around to the driver's side as he awkwardly tried to manoeuvre
himself into the passenger side without using his right hand.
