A little while later Cade got up from the bed. He went towards the bathroom
discretely pulling his boxers up before going in. Toni was sat on the side of his bathtub.
He felt disgusting, like his whole body was dirty, but his worries were forgotten when
he saw her face. He didn’t know what that look was but she was not happy.
Tear tracks stained her cheeks, the camera held firmly in her hand as she stared at
the screen even though the screen had gone dark long ago. He wanted her in that
second. He wanted to comfort her and show her how he truly felt, so he did the one
thing that could possibly have resurrected the moment. He kissed her.
What he didn’t expect was her response. She leaned into it as if she truly wanted
to be there and that split second felt right, as if he was where he was meant to be. The
look in her eyes as he pulled away told him that she wanted this too.
“But I thought you loved Nate?”
“I thought I did, but now he’s more like a brother than anything to me. For once in
a very long time I feel free and I want to thank you for that. But this, between us, this
isn’t gratitude, and I want to find out what it is. If you want to?”
“I realised a long time ago that I had feelings for you. I always looked at Ali with
rose coloured glasses on. She was always perfect to me, but now she has proven to me
and herself that she isn’t. You can delete those photos, we won’t be needing them.” He brushed the hair out of her face and lifted her chin so she was looking him in the
eyes.
“I think the right thing to do is to give them to Nate. At the end of the day we are
still friends. He deserves to know what he’s getting into.”
