"Oooo, now that's rare. I thought you were just ... well inhuman." Kori observed Kyle's face, looking out for any unique, distinctive features. "Hmm, oh Typhon... I'm guessing wind dragon?" She asked while skipping around Kyle.
"Well the typing of the dragon offspring isn't fully determined by it's parents." Kyle answered. "Although having wind type dragon parents will secure the genetic probability of me having wings."
"Ohhh that's awesome! Oh yeah, have you heard about the Dragon Council promoting breeding of the different types of dragons? I even heard about a cross Lightning-fire dragon born two months ago." Kori informed Kyle.
"I've never ever been there so I don't know anything about their kingdom." Kyle replied coldly. Kori sensed something was wrong and decided to change the subject.
"Oh well. We better start going back now. I still need time to put all that makeup back on, mind helping me with that?" Kori said as she started walking towards the village.
"Yeah and I'll probably burn half of your face just simply by touch. By the way, how did you find out about my secret? I thought I'd got it all covered." Kyle asked as he caught up with her.
"Well... Your acting may be enough to fool the other three, (the' other three' sneezed) but your acting was far too off for someone doing the exact same thing as you." She turned around and winked at Kyle. "We have to start running, and oh by the way, you're still helping me. And don't you dare do anything to my face!" She yelled at Kyle as she ran off.
'Oh boy, this is going to be such a great time for me.' Kyle thought as he picked up his pace too.
As the festival finally begun since there was not much of a problem for the elders after Kyle reduced the number of Skiraxes. As a result, the harvest carried on as usual and the festival were full of joy and laughter from the villagers. Kori and some other fellow village girls then started up a dance in the village centre and after that, Kori went to look for Kyle. She looked around but to no avail. But as she expected, she eventually found him in small park just near the festival. She sat down on the bench beside him.
"Fire cracker?" Kori took out a fire cracker and offered it to Kyle.
"You do know the fact that I'm a dragon and can breathe fire right?" Kyle reminded.
"Hey, what's wrong now, you never seem to come to the festivals. And even if you do, you never seem to be enjoying them." Kori looked at Kyle with concern in her eyes.
"It's just, well I never really had a family here. Sure I have the whole village but it's just... about my real parents." He then got up from the bench as he continued. "And the sole memory in my mind that still remains of them is just a fuzzy image of my mom." Kyle told Kori as he looked down at his feet . She then too got up and patted his shoulder, comforting him.
"It'll be alright, I'm sure of it." Then, she suddenly came up with a great idea. 'Isn't Kyle's birthday next month? I know exactly what to do to make him cheer up! I'll plan him the first and bestest birthday party in his life! Although, a dragon's life is pretty long...' She thought in excitement. Kyle however on the other hand, was still wondering why Kori was smiling to herself.
---A month later---
"So what's all this meat for?" Kyle asked Nate whilst heading back to the village with bags of butchered meat hanging over his shoulders.
"Ah... Well... My dad wanted some extra meat for... ehm...stuff. Yeah, by that I mean random stuff." Nate replied hesitantly.
"Okay..." Kyle responded, curious to see what was he actually hiding from him. Cause Nate kinda seemed more suspicious than usual. Having arrived back, Kyle dropped the bags off at Nate's. While pretending to walk away, Kyle snuck in a small corner and crept over to spot Nate trying to carry those same bags out of his house. 'What is he doing?' Before Kyle could continue stalking him any further though, a man came over and tapped his shoulder. "Shh... Don't make a single sound. He'll know I'm here." He whispered.
"Kyle, don't some people need help moving their items?" "Oh yes, I'll be there - right away." Kyle looked back for a second glance but while he was distracted earlier, he had already gone. Meanwhile, Kori and May were secretly spying at Kyle through a window of a house close by.
"That was close." May sweatdropped as turned around and informed Kori. "Yeah. Just your luck that a neighbor needed help huh?" Kori agreed. 'If we weren't careful enough, we couldn't have pulled this off!'
By the time Kyle had finished helping out, it was already dusk, so his choice was to head back for the day. When he entered his house, he felt there was something different. As he reached for the light switch, the lights suddenly lit up.
"Surprise!" A few familiar voices broke out. It was the gang, and on above them hung a large banner with the words 'happy birthday' on it. There was a giant birthday cake and a lot of meat on my table.
"You guys...." Kyle said as he shook his head. "You didn't have to plan all of this for m-" Just before he could finish his sentence, May had already dragged him away. All of them partied till dusk, Kyle was having a whale of a time. But there was an accident with the drinks as there was alcohol in it, May, Nate and Adrian ended up kinda falling asleep on living room sofa. Kyle was lying on the small lawn just outside of his house.
"You know, you guys really didn't have to do this. I could barely even remember my own birthday." Kyle told Kori, who was sitting beside him. She then pointed to the night sky.
"Anyways, you see that one star in the sky? It's a part of two constellations. But you can choose which to see. What I really mean is, after hearing your story, I feel that you should move on from the past, and treat us like your new family." Kori suggested.
"Thanks Kori" Kyle whispered softly for noone to hear. "What? What did you say? I couldn't hear you." Kori turned to Kyle with a puzzled look.
"I said, now I can pour ice cold water on your head everyday!" Kyle shouted into her ear, laughing.
"Hey! I would get you back if you dare to do that!"
