(A/C)Both are the same in my opinion -_-)
A few weeks after the surprise birthday party, soon it became time for the test that happens once every two years, to accommodate the 6 and 7 year olds for the testing of their potential to determine their fate. More specifically the elders would guide them to what jobs would be perfectly suited for them in the future. Most of the time the potential 3s and above would be granted the permission and access to leave the village and explore themselves unless it's a special case.
Just an hour before the test, Kori asked Kyle a question that he had never thought hard about; "You do know how to control your powers right?"
Kyle looked at her with a blank face. '_' "Ah whaaaaaat?" Kori facepalmed.
"Since the crystal ball is adjusted to average human standards and unfortunately we're not human, there would be a little bit of an issue regarding the potential tests." Kori explained.
"Well yeah I am aware of that, but what about the whole power controlling thing you mentioned? I thought leaving the village as a potential 5 warrior would be absolutely just fine?" Kyle asked back.
"Well it would be... if we weren't going to be sent to the academy at the capital if we're potential 5s. I doubt we can fool or trick those old timers back at the capital when we're only 6." Kori rolled her eyes.
"That's true I guess. But you've gotta have faith." Kyle said.
"Yeah right. Anyways, we need to start trying to find ways to control our powers during the test. The way the ball works is by absorbing a bit of our powers, testing the magic in it and afterwards, releasing and returning the powers back to us. Luckily the magic ball in the village is pretty worn out due to it being quite old, so results are not that accurate anymore. The village elders just might overlook some weird sightings in the results due to our bloodlines." Kori explained.
"Soooo we just need to suppress our powers while we're taking the test? Piece of cake! Got it." Kyle nodded his head.
"Attention to all candidates taking the potential test, please report to the village square this instance." A voice sounded over their heads throughout the whole village.
"Well looks like time's up. For some unknown reason, we've gotta report earlier today." Kori said.
As they reached the village square, the large bell hanging in the tower was hit and it's chime resounded throughout the village. Signalling that time was up.
"Thank you all for being punctual for the test. As you would have known..." 'blah blah blah.' Kyle wasn't all ears to Elder Quatre's long and boring speech, he was in a different state of mind. After 15 minutes that felt almost forever to Kyle, he was finally done. "And so I hope all of you will discover your destined future, and I wish all of you the best of luck for your tests." There were a couple of 'simple' physical tests starting out including running, sparring, etc. (E/C) Basically a tiny bit harder than torturous Napfa XD) Kyle, as expected of, aced all of them in a breeze. At the same time, Kori, despite being a mage, surprisingly also managed to pass the physical tests pretty easily. After the physical tests concluded, only half the crowd of participants were left standing in the village square.
"Congratulations to all of you. Now it is time, please come up here one at a time to use the potential ball." Elder Quatre reappeared and announced to the crowd down below. One by one, the people went up the steps to use the magic ball. Both May and Adrian had a normal but decent potential 3. Unfortunately, for Nate's, the ball almost reached the 4 mark but it went down back to 3. He was quite disappointed.
When it was Kyle's turn, he was trying to recall what Kori had said to him. "Control myself, control myself..." Kyle kept mumbling to remind himself. After placing his palm on top of the ball and trying to control his powers, a small crack was made, making the ball emit a strange, bright light, which was something unusual. Kyle immediately withdrew his hand from the ball, where it struck him into realisation of his mistake. Meanwhile, no one had a clue of what had gone wrong, the small crack resulted into larger cracks on the ball, making it shatter into many small crystal fragments, all that was left now was that wooden stand that held it. Everyone gasped in shock. They didn't know what to expect from Kyle then. What did he do? What is he?
Kori, being at the waiting area, witnessed what had happened, she knew. 'He did the complete opposite of what I asked him to do. And it made the situation much more worst than I had expected.' She facepalmed.
Meanwhile in the distance, a figure emerged from the burning remains of what had used to be a village. "Hmm, just as I was finished with one too. It won't hurt slaughtering one more just before returning back, would it?" Said the tall figure with an evil smirk drawn on his face, as from his back emerged majestic, raven black wings as he swiftly took off into the distant sky.
