The thin light crosses my thin lana curtains, as every morning, and reflects over my face waking me up. I stretch up, turn my head sideways, and pull the covers off. I sit up. My tommy roars and I stand up barefeet making my way to the kitchen to grab some blue berries I picked up yesterday. I sit over the counter with bowl of blueberries  and drop two on my mouth.

I remember, I'm finally 18. I smile, thinking how much I've been waiting for today and it's finally here. Am I grown up yet?

I catch Shawn spying me from the small opened crack of his bedroom door, well, it's actually Tommy's room but he never came back so... Shawn took it.

"Happy Birthday!" He says walking out his room and heading to the kitchen as I stare at him silently. "Come on! Don't tell me you are going to keep ignoring me after all this time!"

I giggle. "Thank you" I answer.

"Damn" he says impressed.

"What?" I ask.

"It's wierd hearing your voice again after so long..."

He's nothing like the boy I met the first day I arrived to this house. He's taller, bigger, stronger... Cuter? For this past 11 years we have never stablished such conversation. We never interacted with each other since today. I used to ignore him to avoid talking to him, because I was afraid he might not only hurt me, but braking the promise me and my dad made. As he comes closer I throw a berry at him as he catches it with his mouth and chew's it as he prepares to tell me something. "So what's for your birthday?"

"It's hunting day, we have no fish or chicken since Monday."

"So are we going to go hunt separately or, for atleast once in your lifetime , go hunting together?"

"Second choice doesn't sound bad...?"

"Or what about skinnydipping?"

"Shawn!" I push him back.

"It's not a bad idea."

"Go get ready." I say eating the last berry and heading to my room.

Since there are no hunting or any other special athletic suits for it, we go hunting on our black diving suits. I leave my long hair loose and grab my hunting bag with the arrows, and on the other hand the bow.

Shawn waits for me on the back door as we get ready to cross the river swimming and prepare for hunt. Without thinking it, we dive into the freezing water until getting to the other side. We started off by stabbing some fish on the river, afterwards, we went hunting some birds for tonight's chicken and climbing some trees to grab fresh fruits for dessert and for breakfast. A couple of times, he tried helping me, grabbing my waist and hands to improve my hunting posture before letting the arrow go. It made me uncomfortable, so i shaked my shoulders, told him I could do it on my own, and then went back to my normal posture. But we certainly had our good moments together.

We both went back home to make dinner and take a bath on hot soaking water to relax our muscles

We both went back home to make dinner and take a bath on hot soaking water to relax our muscles.

I felt so full as we both layed on the couch besides the window after eating a whole chicken and a fruit coctail. Shawn sang me happy birthday, and even though he was the only one, for me, it was enough.

"So... Why did you ignored me all this time without telling me why, and just saying "Wait till I'm 18"."

I lower my sight, "My dad." I answer. "It was our promise. Not talking to anybody until I was grown up, and not letting anybody brake me."

"And..."

"I promised it. But he didn't accomplished his, coming back to pick me up."

"Neither my dad... And so he did the same promise."

"I was such a stupid!" My anger said taking over me. "How did the trackers killed my mom in front of me and I was just thinking, "she's sleeping, so is dad." and instead of letting my dad go why didn't I go with him! WHY DIDN'T I? AND I SEWD MY MOUTH FOR FUCKING 13 YEARS WAITING MY FATHER TO COME BACK."

"Grace, Grace." He grabs my hands before I slap him. "It's fine. You were not stupid, neither did I. We just thought they were really coming back."

A tear runs down my cheek falling over Shawn's hand and he cleans my cheek staring into my eyes.

"Grace, can I ask you something?"

I look up. "You already are." A deep silence fills the room.

"What are we?"

"What do you mean...?"

"I mean, are we brothers, roommates, strangers?" He lets my hands go.

"...Why don't you answer that question to yourself?"

"'Cause I'm afraid."

"Afraid of what, Shawn?"

"That you might not feel the same. I know it sounds so stupid but Grace I like you. It's been 13 years trapped in this four walls, and the only person I have woken up to every morning has been you-"

"-So you're saying we only have each other, and we have no other choice since we are trapped here forever... ?"

"No!" He shakes his head. "We have been living together all this time, and I like you for the way you are. And after spending all this time with you and being able to interact for the first time, has been making my feelings impossible to hide." He takes a deep breath. "So grace... What are we?"

 What are we?"
