chapter one

just before this starts I used a tv show called castle because I like that show but like if you don't know what that is just pretend it's something else

"Newt?"

I step into his apartment. He gave me a key a long time ago.

"Where are you?"

Still no answer.

"I need someone to watch Castle with."

It's Monday night, the new episode will be on in twenty minutes. It's our favorite show, we watch it together every week.

"Give me a minute," he yells from his bedroom. He comes out with wet hair and in a dress shirt and black jeans.

"Woah. Where are you going?" I ask.

"I have a date with Cara."

"You're going on a date on a Monday?"

"She wanted to. Sorry, no Castle tonight."

"It's okay," I lie.

Newt has been spending a lot of time with Cara lately, time he usually spends with me. We've been best friends for years and now he's choosing a date with his dumb girlfriend over Castle with me?

"That reminds me, I really want you to meet Cara. You're the two most important people in my life and it's kind of ridiculous you haven't yet."

Oh no. I really can't meet Cara, but I also can't tell Newt that I can't meet Cara. He'd be devastated if he thought I didn't like his girlfriend.

"Yeah..."

"So when do you want to meet her?"

Oh god, he's really serious about this.

"Um, I don't know."

I start gathering my stuff and slowly backing towards the door.

"How about sometime this week?" He asks walking towards me.

"Maybe."

"Where are you going?"

"I have to go I have somewhere to be."

"Tonight's Castle night, you wouldn't make plans."

Yeah, but you did.

"If I want to see it I should leave now."

"We aren't watching it together?"

Oh, now you care.

"Fine, I'll wait."

"Oh, um... thanks. Bye, I guess."

"Bye," I say and practically sprint to my car.
