It's a week later and Newt still hasn't talked to me. I stopped calling him a few days ago, I figured I should give him his own time to talk about whatever this is, but I can't take it any longer.

I drive over to his apartment and ring the doorbell, but he doesn't answer. I ring it three more times just to make sure that if he's in there, he heard, but still no answer. I get out my key and unlock the door. I hope if he's here he isn't mad that I'm breaking in.

"Newt?" I close the door. "Are you in here?"

I check every room in his apartment, but he's nowhere to be seen. I guess he doesn't want to be found. I call him as I'm walking into my apartment building, but again, he doesn't answer.

Why is he being like this? Did I do something wrong? Is he mad at me? Did he find out I like him and now he doesn't want to be friends with me anymore?

I turn the corner to my hallway and stop. Newt is sitting next to my door. He sees me and stands up. I hurry down the long hallway.

"Why didn't you just use your key?" I ask.

"I was in a rush I forgot it. I forgot everything in fact I don't have my phone or my other keys..."

"Oh. Do you want to come inside and talk or something?"

"Um... yeah."

He's going to tell me he can't be friends with my anymore. He's going to pick Cara over me.

As soon as I close the door Newt starts talking fast. "Okay, I'm sorry I haven't talked to you or anyone for the past week. That was horrible of me to do to you but I've been doing a lot of thinking and I just..." he stops to take a breath.

"You should slow down, you're talking really fast."

"No, I can't because it's really important and... Okay, just... You can't react you have to just let me say what I need to say. Can you do that?"

Now I'm extremely worried. I guess I should enjoy my last few moments as Newts best friend.

"Please, y/n."

"Okay..."

"I stopped liking Cara for some reason and I've been trying to figure it out all week and then when you were talking about Brad it just came to me and I didn't know what to do."

"Okay."

"And not that this should affect how you're gonna react, but I've never ever been happier than when I realized what I just realized."

"Okay."

"I love you."

note: when I was writing this (which was in summer of 2015) I had planned to write a second book about what happens afterwards, but I never finished it. I'm doing my best, but it's hard to just pick something up where you left off over a year ago. And I haven't really been in the maze runner fandom for almost a year. I wrote the first chapter so worst comes to worst I just put that up, but I'll try and finish it because this story actually wasn't the worst.
