"God dammit!" Joe exclaimed as he stomped on the brakes of the car he had stolen mere minutes ago.
"What the hell are you doing?!" His brother, Nick said as he held onto the armrest, keeping himself from flying forward.
"You forgot the money in the other car, dumbass!" Joe yelled as he turned the car around and stomped on the gas pedal, heading right back to the car dealership.
"We can't go back there! The cops will be all over the place!" Nick shouted back.
"Without the money, we have absolutely nothing," Joe explained as they pulled closer the the car dealership.
As Nick expected, the place was crawling with cops. They had parked the other car in the woods behind the dealership. They probably hadn't found it yet, but when they did, they would recognize it as the escape vehicle from the robbery of one of the biggest banks in the United States: Citigroup Inc.
Joe hopped out of the vehicle and Nick did the same. They already knew what to do. Nick would distract the police so that Joe could get what he needed to.
Nick was only seventeen and therefore the police saw him far more inferior and innocent than Joe who was twenty-one.
People weren't smart enough to figure out who had robbed the bank, so they were still nobodies to everyone else.
Nick walked up to the officer, rubbing his hands together as if he was cold and trying to warm them. "Officer, I was wondering what all the commotion was about? It's pretty late..I live just down the street," He said smoothly.
"Ah.. ain't nothin' to worry 'bout son, justa small car robbery. We'll probably find the guy who did it wrecked on the next street or somethin'," The man replied.
Nick realized a fatal flaw in his cover-up. His accent. He hadn't realized how far south from New York they must have gotten in just a day. They might've been in Virginia or maybe even North Carolina.
Unfortunately, the cop noticed this and continued to say, "You don't sound like you're from 'round here, kid. Where ya originally from?"
"I'm from New Jersey. I'm relatively new around here. My old man grew up here and he wanted to move back," Nick shrugged it off.
The man chuckled, "Ya know, I got a son right 'round your age. What's yer name, maybe I've heard about you before."
"My name is Nicholas Jonas," Nick shook the man's hand and smirked slightly because he knew that someday, long after that man had retired from being a cop, he would constantly wonder what would've happened if he had gotten Nick Jonas when he had the chance.
During the time that Nick was ingratiating himself with the chief, Joe had been able to sneak around the other cops and into the woods behind the building. He made it to the car and opened the door, but his stomach dropped at the sight of the empty seat. Where the hell was the money?
Suddenly a voice from behind him whispered, "Don't move."
