He felt a gun press against his temple. He put his hands up in a sign of surrender as he turned around.
And right there in front of him was a young lady dressed in uniform. She couldn't have been older than Joe.
"Do you want to tell me what the hell you're doing around here at such a late hour, sir?" She asked as she held the gun in front of his face, her arms were shaking and her face was plastered with fear. Too easy. There was a slight twang in the way she spoke. Joe used this to his advantage.
He smiled slightly, "You see, Officer..," he read her name tag, "Lovato, I live in the house up over there on the hill and I heard sirens, so I decided to come check out what was happening and this car was here and naturally, I'm just a curious person," He said swiftly, in a false fluent southern accent.
She slightly lowered her weapon and Joe pounced. He grabbed the gun and twisted her arm behind her back, lifting the gun to her head, "Hasn't anyone told you not to let down your guard, Officer?"
She tried to break free from his grip, "Good luck explaining this to the authorities," She said defensively as if she believed that he was going to be caught.
"If they're anything like you, I won't have to," Joe smirked, "Now tell me where my money is."
She laughed, "Why would I tell you?"
"I don't know, I kind of have a gun to your head," He replied sourly.
She didn't reply. He pushed her up against the tree, "Listen, you're being taken whether I have the money or not. The money decides whether we live in a house on the beach or in the middle of the desert. It's your choice."
She bit her lip and took a deep breath. "Behind the tree over there."
"Go get it," He said as he released her, guiding her to the tree she mentioned with the gun to the back of her head.
She picked up the bag from behind the tree, as he asked.
"Open it and show me the money. And hurry, you're wasting my damn time," He demanded.
Quickly, she fumbled with the zipper of the bag and opened it for him to see. He took the bag from her and threw it over his shoulder. "Come with me," He said, grabbing her arm and shoving the gun in his pocket.
They snuck through the woods until they found an area that was safe to pass through to get to the car. Joe practically dragged the girl along. Nick was already sitting in the passenger seat when they got there.
He rolled his eyes, "Seriously Joe, you're picking up women in the forest?" He said, laughing.
Joe chuckled as he took the handcuffs hanging from the woman's belt and cuffed her hands behind her back, harshly shoving her into the backseat. "I ran into a little obstacle. I got the money anyways."
He handed the backpack to Nick as he got into the driver's seat. "We can get rid of her in a few hours when we're far from here, I guess."
Nick shrugged and put his headphones on as Joe started the car.
