Chapter 9

Demi sat in the back of the car as they sped down the winding roads of the southern United States. She stared out the window as her surroundings changed, without saying a word.

Joe was driving and Nick sat in the passenger seat. Demi was bored out of her mind. She looked over at the brothers. "I have to go to the bathroom," She said bluntly.

"Can't you wait?" Nick asked, but Joe had already pulled into the lane leading to the next exit. They stopped at a small gas station.

Demi got out of the car and grabbed Joe's hand, pulling him out of Nick's sight. He seemed slightly confused and she pouted a bit as she wrapped her arms around his torso and rested her head against his chest. She felt his muscular arms embrace her and smiled.

"Sit with me baby..I'm bored," She whispered.

Joe groaned and gave in immediately, "I can ask Nick if he'll drive."

She smiled and kissed him on the cheek. "Thanks babe." She giggled and ran back off to the car, with Joe walking behind her.

Joe talked Nick into driving for a while and he sat in the back with Demi, who instantly started to kiss on his neck. He breathed in deeply as he tried not to moan. She ran her hand up and down his chest as she rubbed her own chest against his arm. He could feel and see her hard nipples through the thin material of her shirt. He looked over at her and placed his hand on her leg. "Demi, if you keep doing that, I'm gonna jiz my pants."

She giggled. "Save it for tonight," She teased. She was testing his weaknesses. So far, the only one was her. She smirked to herself at this thought.

When they stopped again, it was time for lunch, but when they stopped on the side of the road, Demi knew that something was different.

Joe helped her out of the car gently. When she asked where they were going, he said that it was a surprise. They walked for a long, long time. It was so long that Joe carried Demi on his back for most of the trip.

Finally, they came to and open field. In the middle of the field was a small jet. That was when Demi realized she was in too deep.

They walked up to the plane, where a man let them inside. A few minutes later, they were already in the sky. Demi fell asleep within the first twenty minutes of the flight.

"Demi, wake up," The husky voice whispered in her ear. Her eyes fluttered open and she smiled slightly at Joe.

"We're here," He said as he stood up, grabbing her hand. Demi stood with him and groggily walked off the plane with him, surprisingly onto sand.

She looked around and saw that they had landed on a beach. It was almost obvious that they were no longer in the United States. They seemed to be on some sort of island. Nevertheless, she had to admit that it was beautiful.

Joe led her to one side of the island as Nick headed to the other. Demi wondered why they were parting, but she didn't dare to speak. She stuck to his side as they approached a beautiful white house. It towered over them, but it still pulled off the beach house vibe.

They walked inside and Demi's mind was racing. She had so many questions. Joe knew this and he led her to the couch, where they both sat down.

"Where are we?" Demi asked.

"A small island located off the coast of Puerto Rico," Joe answered patiently.

"Where did Nick go?" Demi was eager to gain knowledge of this mysterious place.

"There's an identical house to this one on the other side of the island. Nick will live there with whoever he pleases," He explained.

"This is where we're going to live?" She looked around at the place. It was very modern-looking.

"Yeah. Do you want me to show you around?" He asked.

"Sure," She said as they stood and started walking.

He showed her around the house, but Demi still felt as if she needed to have a map to navigate where she needed to go. To Joe's pleasure and Demi's dismay, the small tour ended in the master bedroom, which would've been impressive under different circumstances.

Joe sat on the bed and Demi sat next to him, but she made sure to maintain a comfortable distance from him. For a moment they didn't say anything. She could tell by the pensive expression on his face, that he was in deep thought.

"What are you thinking about?" Demi asked quietly.

"You," He replied.

Demi smiled slightly. "What about me?"

"It's a secret." He smirked at her. "By the way, I have something for you."

Slightly surprised, Demi asked, "What is it?"

He grabbed a single red rose out of the vase on the nightstand and handed it to Demi. "For you."

Demi giggled. "Charming."

"I try." He grinned as Demi took the rose from him and inhaled it's scent. "Do you like it?"

"I love it," She said honestly. She thought it was a sweet gesture. No matter how angry she should have been with him, she couldn't help but see more good than bad in him.

Before they knew it, the distance between them was gone. Her lips crashed onto his.

Demi instantly realized what she was doing, but the worst part was that she couldn't stop herself. Joe ended up being the one to pull away when he felt her tears fall onto his own cheeks. By the time he realized that she was crying, her face was hidden in her hands. She was sobbing uncontrollably.

"Demi, what's wrong?" Joe managed to say over her sobs.

"Everything! Everything is wrong!" She weeped.

He started to reason with her, "Calm down-"

"I can't calm down, Joe!" She yelled at him. "You're the reason all of this happened in the first place. And now I've developed feelings for you, which I can't do. I can't. It's not good for you and it certainly isn't good for me!" He was silent for a long time.

"What am I supposed to do?" He finally asked.

"Fix it. Let me go," She replied as she wiped her tears and settled down slightly.
