OK y'all I'm sorry, but I just can't write an epilogue. I feel like it's pointless considering the fact that I'm writing a third book. I think Book 2 ended perfectly, and Book 3 will answer any questions you have. Soooo, with that being said here's the Q&A about the book.
I hope you all have enjoyed this book as much as I've enjoyed writing it. I cannot wait to get Book 3 out for you all as it is probably my favorite one to date! Also, don't forget to add Murder Captiol to your libraries. I'll be updating that one very soon.
What made you want to write The Bodyguard ?
I actually started The Bodyguard when I was about 14 or 15, but it was a little different. The overall concept was the same, girl falls for her bodyguard, but in the first version the MC (main character) was actually attracted to her bodyguard from the beginning and the began having a sexual relationship behind her father's back. I like this way much better, because it gave the characters a little more depth. They had to have time to figure each other out, while also growing personally.
Why did you make Ivy a spoiled brat?
Ivy is a brat, because it works for her character. I feel as if it's so cliche to write a female MC that is always so likeable. I very rarely write characters that are always loveable, because I want my books to evoke emotion. I want you to take them one minute and love them the next. Besides, if Ivy was perfect then how would she have room to grow.
Why did you make Kellen homeless?
I know y'all are all thinking he was homeless, because I chose to model the character off August Alsina's physical attributes. That's not the case, though. I like to write about things I've either seen or experienced. With that being said, Kellen was homeless because my ex boyfriend was homeless. Teenage/young adult homelessness is so real, so I felt that writing about it would bring a sense of truth to the book. It honestly pains me to think about it, but I felt as if I had to write about to make you all aware.
Why did G have to die?
Y'all, G was dying from the very beginning. As I was planning this story out (or storymapping as it's called) I planned for G and Nami to die. It's just something that had to happen. It's so unrealistic for him to escape death knowing that someone had been plotting to take him out for so long. Also, like I said earlier, I love evoking emotions.
Who was your inspiration for Mama Bee?
Actually, Mama Bee was inspired by my own mother. She's honestly like my best friend (I tell her everything), so I was story mapping she was like "you need to make the Mama be more prominent. You have such a strong, wise mother, that needs to be represented in your story." And I thought, "you know what...she's right." Therefore Mama Bee was born.
Will there be another book?
Yes, yes, and YES again. No matter how many times I say this someone STILL asks the question. There will be a book 3 focusing on their children. It is titled: The Bodyguard 3: Stolen Innocence.
Who was your favorite character from the book?
Ivy. Definitely Ivy. She's my favorite, because she had the furthest to go. I literally watched (or wrote) her bloom into a nice young lady. Stories are all about growth and character development. I feel as if the story would not have been as effective if Ivy didn't have to grow so much. Y'all have seen her go from a selfish, scared, spoiled little girl into a fearless woman/mother who would do anything to protect her family. I think that's big.
Who was your least favorite character?
Hmm, that's a tough one. Honestly though, I'd have to say Caya. I don't know why. I just feel like her story died after Smoke did, then she just had to beg for some attention and start drinking. Lol. So I would say she was my least favorite. Don't get me wrong though, she's a great friend... just kinda there most of the time.
What advice do you have for aspiring authors?
I really cannot give advice, as I do not aspire to be an author. I write because it's a passion of mine. I've been writing since I was a little girl, whether it be stories, songs, poetry, etc. All I can say is write until your little fingers cannot take anymore. I literally write because it relaxes me. I also write because I love seeing the reactions it gives people. So all I can say is write your heart out, baby! The reads, comments, and votes will definitely come.
After writing The Bodyguard & The Bodyguard 2, what would you say the overall theme is?
Uhhh, that's a tough one as well. Honestly, I would say the theme is "love conquerors all." When you truly love someone you'll stop at nothing to protect them, to see them smile, to make them happy, and nothing or no one will be able to keep you from them. Love is one of the most beautiful things in this world. It's also the most complex. It has the power to make or break you, but it is always enough. Love is what makes us human.
Any final thoughts?
Of course I have some closing thoughts. Lol. I just want to say follow your dreams. No matter what you want to be in life, whether it's a lawyer, doctor, entrepreneur, writer, singer, dancer, astronaut, scientist, chemist, physical therapist, teacher, or whatever FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS. I cannot stress this enough. You ladies are beautiful, intelligent, and one-of-a-kind. The simple fact that you all choose to expand your vocabulary and nurture your imagination by reading says so much about you. No matter your circumstances, no matter where you come from YOU have the power to make a difference. Never let anyone hold you back, never let anyone tell you aren't worthy. YOU'RE WORTH EVERYTHING. I pray each one of you finds success. I love you!
