2 – Revelation
“Clarrel.” Patrick muttered under his breath and his seraph blade glowed with white light. One of the demons lunged forward at him, he was fast enough to duck and stab. The blade was now covered with what looked like slime. The demon melted away.
Another one attacked him, he fell down, rolled sideways and slashed at the demon’s throat. Its head flew away, its body disappearing of what looked like black boiling bubbles. Two of them stood still, Patrick assaulted forward just as the demon’s tongue slashed his shoulder. Roma gasped in shock, the demon seemed to be pleased enough to see the Shadowhunter’s blood dripping on the marble floor.
He jumped and moved away from the demon, unable to hide the pained expression on his face. The demon caught him, clawed him and Patrick fell on the floor, banging his head on the metal stock shelves. He held on the bars, trying to stand, Roma didn’t bother to think twice. She grabbed a seraph blade from her bag and whispered, “Ratana.” The blade grew brighter and brighter. She lunged forward at the demon. It cried in ache, she in turn, moved to its side and plunged the blade onto its chest. She felt grossed out by the smell of the demon blood.
“Roma! What the heck are you doing?!” but she ignored him. The last thing she needs now is losing her concentration.
The last demon extended its tongue out, it was weird looking, and the tongue has eyes. She moved away, staggering not to fall. The demon jumped forward, she dived on the floor, cutting out its tongue and sank the blade into the demon’s back. Once again, she saw it dissolve into nothingness. She sat down, unable to believe what just happened until she heard Patrick’s breathing hardened.
“Pat!”
“You…c-could’ve gotten yourself k-kil—“ he shot back his head and tried to consume air. He was still holding onto his arm, it was mutating. Demon poision, she thought.
“Shut up, okay! Don’t talk! Where’s your stele?” he looked down his belt and she pulled out the stele. Roma started drawing a rune on the bottom of his arm. A healing rune.
“It’s…demon poison. That won’t work…” Roma took his arms and put it around her shoulder, helping him stand up.
“Atleast it’ll stop the bleeding. Can you walk?” he nodded. Once again, she drew a rune on his arm and hers, this time, it was a reforming rune. She kicked the door open, walked out of Planet Apes without mundanes seeing them and rushed to the Institute. She was thankful it wasn’t so far. “I am Romafelle Lockwood, Shadowhunter. Let me pass.” she said quickly, almost tripping from word to word. The gate opened. She glanced nervously at Patrick. He was pale, bleeding and his skin felt hot on hers.
After entering the gate, she pressed the elevator button impatiently. Her eyes still on Patrick.
“Don’t be an idiot, don’t close your eyes!” she demanded. I am not going to cry and I am not going to lose him, she told herself. As the elevator’s door opened, she went inside, pushed the button again impatiently and swore under her breath. “By the Angel, Patrick. You’re heavy.” she tried to joke, but her laugh came out as a sigh of fear.
Patrick half smiled, then he knew his eyes were blurry. He heard Roma screaming for help as she put him down in a sitting position. Then he saw two men rushing towards him and then he fell asleep.
Roma went to school the other day, unable to hide how tired she is. People kept asking her where Patrick is. One thing’s for sure, Patrick never misses school. Not even on demon hunting missions. She even had a weird dream. She dreamt of a shadowed creature wanting to get her from the arms of her parents. Then she woke up, screaming—atleast she thought she was.
Her hands nervously clutched onto her bag’s strap. She was too nervous that she bumped into a girl from her Physics class. The girl has solid short shoulder length black hair. Her eyes were a bit yellow and she never talks much.
“Sorry.” she said. But as she picked up the girl’s books, she accidentally brushed her hands on hers, giving her chills. Roma knew the other girl felt the same. She looked at her, and closely examined Roma.
“Romafelle Lockwood.” the girl said casually. “You’re my mate, one of my class.” she said, like knowing what Roma’s question is.
“And you’re?”
“Ivy Prescott.” Roma nodded and gave Ivy back her book.
“Nice meeting you. I have to go now.” she tried to smile but failed miserably. How Patrick is, is what she could only think about.
“Nephilim…” Ivy whispered and a faint smile crawled her lips. Her smile wasn’t creepy, it’s like she had this comfortable smile which made Roma relax a bit. Ivy walked away, motioning Roma to follow her. She did.
They stopped outside the school, sat on the bench far away from people and Ivy sighed.
“How did you know what I am?” she asked curiously.
“I read your mind.” instead of disbelief, irritation came out of her voice.
“You can’t just go inside my mind like that!” she retorted.
“I can’t help it. I lose control of my powers once in a while.” Ivy said, honest expression on her face.
“What are you? A warlock? I’m pretty sure you’re no Shadowhunter.”
“I’m one of the Night Children.” she said. If she is, then why is she walking around when the sun is up? “I know. I asked myself the same question every single day until my 16th birthday.”
Vampires weren’t monsters, that’s what Thomas always tells her. Vampires, Werewolves, Warlocks, Fairies are half human, half Downworlders. Unlike them Shadowhunter—a lot of Shadowhunters think they’re better than Downworlders, but they’re not, Roma thought. Shadowhunters are half human, half angels…they have angel blood.
“I wasn’t turned into a Vampire. I’m a Vampire at birth. My parents too, but they can’t walk in sunlight like I can. Last month was my 16th birthday, Regulators were after me.” Roma knew what Regulators are. They are the followers—more powerful than ordinary followers—of Abaddon, the God of Destruction. “I felt a surge of power the moment I woke up on my birthday. I heard a lot of noises, then I realized, I was reading every single mind. I felt the air crumple around me hours after. That feeling when you touch a TV…there’s something electrifying with it. My parents told me to run here, and find Lara Fawn or Raven Pierce.”
“Why are you telling me this?” Roma asked but Ivy ignored her question and continued telling her the story.
“I found Raven Pierce, one apartment near the Pandemonium club. He’s a warlock, and he said he knew what I was. A Vampire and the daughter of Rigel.” she felt Ivy go inside her head once again, learning all her questions. “There are five specific star in the book of Magnus. The book of Magnus is a most powerful spell book the world ever had. It referred to Polaris, Rigel, Avior, Grafias and Vega—all the creation of the Goddess Cassiopeia. It has been said that every 500 years, children—with incredulous blood born on the night all of the stars rose and stayed in the sky, are regarded as daughters of Cassiopeia.”
“Ivy, why are you telling me this?”
“To warn you.” her heart started thumping really fast.
“To warn me from what?”
“The Regulators. Your birthday is in 3 days.”
“I know but that doesn’t make sense at all!” she complained, grabbing her bag and she started to walk away.
“You’re a daughter of Cassiopeia. I can feel it. I’m different from other Vampires, Roma. I’m sure you’re different from your fellow Nephilim’s.” that’s what made her stop. “If you believe me, meet me tomorrow in Pandemonium and we can talk to Raven Pierce together. You can trust me.” she glanced back to look at Ivy but she was no longer there.
