"Just tell me everything that happened," Nick requested as he smiled reassuringly at Judy.

"Well, I was walking down the street last night when someone grabbed me and dragged me into an alleyway," she began. "I tried to scream and call for help but they covered up my mouth before I got to - but I did get to scream for help once. I think that's how the old lady heard me and called the police - but, I started trying to kick and scratch whoever was pinning me against the wall. I managed to claw their white mask off and I saw the guy underneath it."

"Do you happen to remember what the guy looked like?" Nick asked, still scribbling notes down in his notebook.

"Actually, I happen to know the guy."

Nick's head shot up in disbelief, and he raised an eyebrow at Judy.

"Really?" He asked.

Judy nodded and smiled sweetly, folding her arms over her chest.

"Well shoot, even better!" Nick exclaimed. "Who was he?"

"Max West, a tiger who used to go to school with me when I still lived in Bunnyburrow," Judy answered. "He's probably around my age now but I had no idea that he was a member of The Black Gulls."

"Wait a minute, that's not good," Nick said, tapping his pen on his chin.

"Huh? What do you mean?" Judy asked, giving Nick an uncertain glance.

"If you knew one of the members and saw their face, they're gonna be out to get you," Nick answered, and Judy's eyes widened in horror. "You're not safe at your apartment so you're coming to live with me until we can crack this case," he stated and jumped off of his chair before heading to the door.

"Wait, what?!" Judy shrieked, hopping off of her own chair and following Nick to the door.

"Face it, Carrots, they're gonna come after you and you know it," he stated bluntly and Judy blinked. "The best we can do is put you under witness protection and have you stay at my place. Besides, it's not like you were very safe in your part of town to begin with. I just want to make sure you're safe."

Judy froze for a moment.

'I just want to make sure you're safe.'

So it wasn't just a cop instinct. Nick actually wanted Judy to be safe without it being mandatory. He was even letting her stay at his place until they solved the case. Cue butterflies...

Judy clicked her tongue at herself for actually thinking Nick was being nice, and Nick thought she was doing it at him.

"Problem?" He asled, furrowing his eyebrows at Judy.

Judy looked back up at Nick and shook her head.

"No! No problem at all," she answered, smiling brightly for the first time in ten years. "Thanks, officer."

"Call me Nick," he insisted before walking out of the interrogation room, leaving Judy behind.

Judy felt her stomach rising as her heart began to beat rapidly. Perhaps their relationship was going somewhere...

Guys, I'm so sorry for not posting in ages. I just haven't had any motivation to continue writing this book as I feel like it's going nowhere. To me, it just seems a bit boring. But I will carry on with this book just for you guys! ❤️
