Nick decided to go back to the ZPD to upload the witness reports he had gathered together from earlier that day onto his computer, which gave Judy plenty of time to get home and have some time to herself. Nick knew it seemed harsh for him not to go after Judy but, being only a year older than her, he understood that teenagers liked having time to themselves without others bothering them.

Nick knew that feeling all too well...

"Nick, you're here late," Clawhauser chuckled when he saw his fox friend push open the door lazily and trudge in. "Is Judy ok?"

"She's fine," he lied. "At home sleeping."

"That's cute," he sighed, resting his elbow on his desk and his head into the palm of his paw as he gazed dreamily at Nick.

Nick raised an eyebrow at the cheetah. "What's cute?"

"What you and Judy have," Clawhauser replied, giving Nick a half-lidded smile as he stared at him.

"What do you mean "what me and Judy have?" We don't have anything," Nick argued, all a little too fast for his liking, and Clawhauser could sense he was nervous.

"Face it, Nick, you're in love with her," Clawhauser smirked, something that looked very ugly on the cheetah.

"No I'm not," Nick replied flatly, his ears falling in an unamused fashion to the sides of his head.

"You are, Nick," Clawhauser giggled, something else very ugly for the cheetah.

"I'm not, Clawhauser," he stated, giving the desk officer a lazy salute before starting to walk towards his office.

"Nick!" Clawhauser called out to him, causing the fox to turn around. "A normal cop would've put Judy under witness protection, but you're letting her live in your house. What happens when we solve this case? Are you just gonna kick her back out? Then we'll be right back where we started."

"Well, a normal cop wouldn't have to feel sorry for Judy because of something they experienced when they were a child," Nick replied smartly, and Clawhauser furrowed his eyebrows. "Now that I know about her and her past, I just want her to be safe. She's a good kid, Clawhauser, and I care about her. That's all," he shrugged.

Who was he kidding? Of course he was in love with Judy, why else would he be paranoid over every little thing she did? It was a feeling he couldn't explain, but it definitely wasn't pity or spite. It was something Nick had never felt before, and it was almost like learning a foreign language.

Nick turned back around to continue walking, but what Clawhauser said next completely caught him off guard.

"It's the twenty first century, Nick. It's ok for predator and prey to fall in love."
