Judy heard the front door open but didn't say anything.
"Judy?"
She still didn't say anything. Even when she heard footsteps up the stairs and her bedroom door creak open, she didn't say anything.
The door closed and Nick leaned against the doorframe before stuffing his paws into his trouser pockets.
"Wanna talk about it?" He asked, looking at Judy as she rested her head in her arms.
"No," she mumbled, and Nick chuckled before walking over to her and bending down next to the desk she was sitting at.
"Come on, I'll get some ice-cream and we can sort this out. I may be your friend, but I'm also a cop. It's my job to protect the city and you're a part of it," he explained, smiling softly at Judy, despite the fact she couldn't see him, before standing up.
After a few long seconds of contemplating on whether or not she should go, Judy eventually got up from the desk and followed Nick downstairs.
"Go wait in the living room, I'll be out in a sec," Nick instructed kindly and Judy nodded before trudging into the living room and plopping herself down onto Nick's couch.
She really didn't want to do this, but she had no choice. She could either not tell Nick and damage their relationship as well as her mental health, or tell him and get a sympathy card from him. But Judy didn't want sympathy. She wanted Nick.
As if on cue, Nick entered the room with two bowls of ice-cream, handing the bowl with the most ice-cream in it to Judy. This made her smile.
"This reminds me of the interrogation back at the ZPD," she said quietly and Nick nodded.
"Except now you're in my house and you've got ice-cream," he added on. "You don't get that at the ZPD."
Judy let out a silent laugh, her shoulders rising and falling. She refused to make eye contact with Nick, as she didn't want to be there in the first place. "There" being anywhere. Anywhere where she was subject to bullying or discriminated because of her age or attitude. She hated it all, and looking into Nick's eyes would make it all worse, as she knew she could never have him so what was the point of torturing herself?
"Look, Judy, I know it's a little weird telling me your whole life story, but I'm not just a cop. I'm just a regular guy and I want to help. I'm not gonna tell anybody down at the ZPD because that's not what friends do. So...just tell me," Nick suddenly explained, and Judy made the mistake of looking at him.
His emerald eyes were so perfect and it physically hurt to see someone so beautiful right in front of her when she couldn't have them.
Taking a deep breath, Judy told him everything.
"When I was nine, all I wanted to do was become a cop, like you, but because I was a bunny everybody thought I was crazy. Then, one day, I made the mistake of telling everyone I wanted to be a cop at the Carrot Day Festival and that's when I got attacked by Gideon Grey.
"Apparently me wanting to become a cop caused my dad to be publicly humiliated and on the night of the festival, after I was attacked, he got drunk and began trashing my room. I came home to hear yelling and glass shattering so I went upstairs to see what was going on, and when my dad saw me there, he chased me down the stairs and pinned me against the wall and-"
Judy was cut off by tears running down her face and her breath quickening. Nick noticed and turned his body around so he was facing Judy before hugging her tightly.
"It's ok," he whispered as Judy cried into his shoulder. "I'm here. Nobody's ever gonna touch you again."
Judy scoffed a little, but not out of mockery.
"What's so funny?" Nick asked, a small grin of his own curling up at the corner of his lips as he let go of Judy and pulled away.
"I just realised how you're like the father I never had," she answered, her head cocked to the side slightly, the moon shining through the window reflecting off of her beautiful purple eyes. "You're like a whole new father figure to me."
That made Nick's heart sink slightly. Before he knew what he was doing, he rested his paw on top of Judy's, causing the bunny to look at him with a responding expression.
"Judy, I don't want to be just a father figure to you," he admitted, his eyebrows creasing slightly in concern. "I want to be so much more."
Nick then rested his other paw on the side of Judy's face, and she blushed under his touch, but nonetheless accepted it as he wiped away the tears still falling from her eyes.
"And I don't want you to be just a father figure," Judy replied quietly, nuzzling her face into his paw as she closed her eyes.
Nick slowly moved his paw from Judy's cheek to her chin, tipping it up slightly for his lips to kiss hers softly and carefully, almost as if he would break her if he wasn't gentle. Their lips fit into eachother's like puzzle pieces: they were perfect.
"I love you, Judy," he mumbled against her lips.
"I love you too, Nick," she responded before he kissed her again.
