Chapter Two
“You’re all early. That’s a surprise.” Kansei observed, appearing in front of the three Genin who sat around a large boulder placed in the center of training ground 14. The grounds were mostly an open clearing, but on one side was a thick forest that hid a lake within.
“Kansei-sensei!” Sekka exclaimed in surprise, jumping away from the Jonin that had appeared out of thin air. The sixteen year old just looked at her with a raised eyebrow before jumping up to the top of the ten foot boulder.
“Alright. Your mission is to find me. There will be clues hidden all within the training grounds. I assure you that I am within these grounds, so don’t believe that I have left.”
“How’s that a test of our skills?!”
Kansei looked down at Sekka blankly. “Do you have any idea how hard it will be to find an ex-ANBU that doesn’t wish to be found? You have eight hours, go.”
With that, Kansei disappeared in an explosion of soundless silver sparks. All three Genin blinked before looking at each other. Sekka was the first to run off in the direction of the woods, Yari following right after her.
Sukai, however, stayed where he was and looked up at the rock. Why did he stand there? He could’ve told us what he did when he was standing in front of us….and he was facing a certain direction.
Climbing up to the top of the rock, Sukai mirrored Kansei’s previous position. Looking out, he caught sight of a jagged cliff that was right at the edge of the forest. He could only see the top, but it had been previously unseen from his position on the ground.
“Perfect. Cliff climbing.” He groaned before sighing and jumping to the ground, heading after his two wayward teammates.
Kansei meanwhile was smirking from his resting place within the cliff wall. He was sitting within a small cavern, big enough for him to relax comfortably just out of sight. It was a place he frequently visited whenever he wanted to not be found. And he’d be damned if those kids actually found it, seeing as it was hidden with his strongest genjutsu as well.
“At least one of them got the hint. Hell, I may take him on as an apprentice if….when they fail.” Snickering at the thought, Kansei turned his attention back to his book that he held. His clones were already busy making sure the kids didn’t die, and seeing just how good their tracking and teamwork skills were.
Meanwhile, Sekka was busy looking through every nook and cranny of the forest for a hiding spot that Kansei would be within. Yari was doing the same thing, only his attention was focused on the lake where he could be found in only his boxers, diving continuously to find any hidden passages.
Sukai, however, was at the foot of the cliff and staring up at the two hundred foot wide expanse of space that his sensei could be within. After a while, he finally concluded there was no possible way for him to look at every part of the cliff on his own. Thus, he turned around and headed to look for his clueless teammates, knowing that three was far better than one.
____
Two hours had passed. One with them being by themselves, and another with Sukai trying to convince the both of them that they had to work together. It was more a problem with Sekka than Yari, but both were still difficult in Sukai’s mind.
“This is hopeless! Are you sure he’s here?!” Sekka yelled, deep blue eyes glaring heatedly towards her Nara teammate.
“It’s a better chance then what you were doing.” Sukai quipped, trying to ignore the annoying female’s shouting. She was completely giving away his presence, but if Kansei was just as good as he said than it was doubtful that he didn’t know where they were anyway.
