My greatest fear

It was 3AM, and a storm was just beginning its fury. Lightning struck a tree across the street, and thunder cracked, sending chills running down my back. Who could sleep when the night was just about to get interesting?
Finally, I decided to walk through the French doors to the balcony. From above, I didn't see a vehicle. They must not be home.. Again...

Walking back inside, I decided to wait. Hours passed and no one showed. They were later than usual. I picked up my phone and called my mom. It rang 5 times and went to voicemail. Hanging up, I dialed my dad's number.

"Pick up... Come on.."

There was still no answer.

Their phones aren't dead... They're not at home... Something is wrong..

I sprinted downstairs and out the door as fast as I possibly could and took the four wheeler from the shed. Quickly, I started it up and drove down the old driveway, to the street. Not knowing where to go, I turned right. I drove for miles, down the road.

"What is that?"  I said, looking at an object in the distance. As I drove up, I saw a cow, lying dead in the road. I looked left and right to find a car, lying upside down in the woods.

"Is everything okay? Oh my gosh... No... No!" I yelled, in pain. Tears rushed down my cheeks as I looked into the car at my dad, stone cold. My mother wasn't in the car beside him.
Walking around the car, I looked everywhere. I walked a few feet away and stopped dead in my tracks.
Eyes closed, and hands perfectly placed on her chest, lie my beautiful mother. She was unconscious and still breathing.
"Mom..." I cried with tears beginning to fall from my eyes. I took her hand and called for help. No one would come.. There was no service and no cars around. As I tried to call again, she awoke.
"Beth? What are you doing here? What am I doing here? Where's your father?"
"Mom... Can you walk?"
"Yes... What's going on?"
"Y'all just got into a terrible accident. Dad is dead..."
"What? No.. You have to be joking. He has to be alright..."

She quickly got up and followed me to where my dad still lie in the car, head down in the seat.
"No... Please.. Breathe.. You have to! I LOVE YOU.. Don't leave me..."
"Daddy... I love you... I didn't even get to say goodbye.. There was so much we wanted to do... Why did you have to leave?"

In the midst of all that had happened, I cried my eyes out. Finally, I fell asleep...
