Blue
Supressing a groan, I slowly made eye contact with Madam G. Her elegant hands were placed on her hips and a singular black eyebrow was raised expectantly. “That’s what I like to hear.” With a curt nod and a mean smile she clicked off up to the front of the classroom. I let out a deep breath and released the grip I had on the desk. I glanced around at the other students in the room. They hadn’t seemed to notice Ricky. I tried making eye contact with Pig, but she was gazing blankly at Madam G. I looked everywhere but at Ricky. Anywhere but at him. Why was it that I could dislike him so intensely and yet my stomach still does a little flip each time I see him?
I looked at the window.
Please see the sentence afore mentioned.
Ricky spotted me looking at him and did a big idiotic grin, his perfect teeth glaring like in those dentist ads. His green eyes sparkling with mischief, he motioned to himself and then flashed me a big thumbs up sign. I rolled my eyes. Instantly the hate that I felt so strongly before bubbled in my stomach. I tore my gaze away from the window, furiously boring my eyes into the wall behind Madam G. Her words were just background noise, with my own loud thoughts taking preference in the decibels. How did he find me here? How did he know where I was? Oh my God. Is he some kind of stalker? Madam G was pointing to something on the screen. Four words in bold. SHYLOCK. Good or bad? I heard a tapping coming from the window. I could have just ignored him, kept furiously glaring at a wall.
Let’s just say that looking at Ricky seemed more productive.
I snapped my head in his direction, making him aware of my anger. He just kept standing there, like an idiot. Then, seeing me looking at him, he pointed at the screen. The he gave me a look that could have meant what the hell? The he mouthed. ‘He’s bad. Shylock is baaaaad.’ I shrugged at him. He frowned at me. He tried mouthing words.
With little success.
He tried again, exaggerating the words. I had to stifle a laugh. He looked like a fish, with the way his mouth was open like that. He glared at me. I responded my poking my tongue out.
Mature till the last.
I watched him as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a pen. Uncapping the lid with his mouth (not sure why) he scrawled the message: Where are you? A school? I narrowed my eyes at him. “Blue. Do you care to share what you are doing?” I froze. Madam G’s voice called to me from the front of the classroom. I saw Ricky’s face. His hand was over his mouth, suppressing a laugh. I quickly turned away from the window. It took me a while to realise that people were staring at me. “Um. Nothing Madam.” It was written all over face that she didn’t believe me. “Oh really Blue?” I gave a meek nod. “That wasn’t a question meant for an answer.” She wasn’t yelling, her voice was deadly. Oh God. I was in so much trouble. I could feel the curious gazes directed at me. I wasn’t usually a bad student. I didn’t deify orders and I was generally quiet. “Blue. I will ask you one more time” Her voice rose and then rapidly turned sweet and soft. “What has grabbed your attention and your focus?” I opened my mouth, as if to say something but no words came out. I knew the next words that I said would either save or damn me. I crossed my fingers and hoped she wouldn’t give me the mysterious and probably fatal punishment. “I just thought there was a bird on the window or something” Madam gave me a calculating stare. She was deciding my fate. “And a bird was worthy or lying to me for?” …o oh.
“Probably not?”
“Correct.” My breathing got deeper as I waited in anticipation for her next words. “See me after class, Blue. So I can see when you can get the punishment.”
Ricky
“See me after class, Blue. So I can see when you can get the punishment.” The hot teacher told Blue. Blue’s face was shocked. Her mouth was open and her eyes wide. Her usually sharp blue eyes reflecting …was that fear? Head strong, intelligent Blue is scared? How bad was the punishment? Wasn’t it just lines or something? Groan. I’m confused. There were whispers behind hands as the news gripped everyone. A pretty girl with translucent eyes looked shit scared. I tried catching Blue’s eye but she was staring blankly at the wall, tears forming at the lip of her eye. I felt a rock hit the bottom of my stomach. Shit. This was my entire fault. She was in trouble because she was communicating with me. I suppressed a much needed groan. I looked sideways at Montana who was leaning on the door frame, chewing her lip. Once she noticed me glancing at her, she shrugged. She doesn’t know how to help either. I watched as the teacher coolly continued with the lesson, and left Blue staring blankly, like a robot. I was frantically combing my mind for some type of solution. Nothing, just curious thoughts on what the hell the punishment was. A bell rung throughout the hollow school, singling the end of class. I caught Blue’s eye and motioned for her to stay.
To my relief, and surprise she did.
Nearly everyone had cleared out. All that were left was Blue and the pretty girl. Blue told her something quietly and she left. She walked up to the window, her expression hadn’t changed. I took a step closer, thinking about my next words. “What’s the punishment?” I asked her. When she spoke, her voice sounded dead. “Nobody knows. You get the punishment and then…nothing. You’re never seen again.” I let out a breath.
“That’s pretty bad.” Blue raised an eyebrow.
“You think, Ricky?” I noted the venom in her voice. It was mostly directed towards me.
“Can you get out of it?”
“No.”
“Can I get you out of it?”
“No, please Ricky. Just leave me alone.” I glanced at Montana. She nodded, telling me to listen to Blue.
I stayed anyway.
“Yeah. I can help you.” I had an idea. If I could just get her to tell me the name of the school…”What’s the name of this school?” What’s the use of being subtle?
“What?” Blue asked incredulously, “You think this is a school?”
“Isn’t it?” I asked her, curiosity mounting.
“No.” Her tone made me feel like an idiot. “It’s an orphanage.”
Blue
What? Ricky actually thinks this is a school? The expression on his face confirmed that he did. “Isn’t it?” He asked me.
“No.” That would be ridiculous. My next words, I thought about. I was going to tell him, I was most likely going to die in a few days, what have I got to lose? “It’s an orphanage.” His face turned into the personification of a light bulb. I could see all his idea’s practically bouncing around in his brain. “An orphanage? That..that..that makes a surprising amount of sense.” A smiled at him. “So what orphanage?”
“Sister Goliath’s home for lost children”
“Sister Goliath? What an awful name.”
“Ricky!” A voice came from behind Ricky. A sweet, feminie voice. There were other people with him? “Sister Goliath. She has that whole cult religion thing. What? you don’t know who she is?” The girl had purple hair. Purple Hair. Her eyes were chocolate brown and she gave me a brilliant smile, before she said; “I’m Montana, by the way.” Lost for words, I managed to splutter out my name. “I know.” She responded brightly. Ricky stepped forward. “Sorry to interrupt this little ‘girl chat’ but hello? Brilliant idea.” Montana sighed and rolled her eyes. “I’m just going to go ahead and ignore that because, hey, I’m better than you.” I snorted at Montana’s expression. “Go ahead all mighty one.” Montana pretended to worship him. Ricky shot her a dirty look. “Okay Blue,” he told me looking right into my eyes. “We’re going to bust you out.”
