"Wake up," someone whispered nudging my shoulder lightly. I groaned opening my eyes slightly, adjusting my eyes to the bright light coming from the windows.

The lady who woke me up was the women who drove the van. I remember a vague memory of her telling me her name was Madilyn. I smiled weakly at her and she smiled back. Her toothy grin shining like pearls.

I looked out my side window, greeted by a tall grey building clustered with glistening windows. My apartment, my new home.

I thanked Madilyn and smiled at her before I opened the car door.

A gust of cold wind blew through my hair and onto my face. I brushed it off with my fingers gently and trudged towards the back of the truck. I grabbed my most needed necessities: make-up bag, laptop bag and bathroom products.

The door to the building welcomed me with nice, warm air. The lady at the reception desk smiled sweetly at me. Her under eyes were dark with exhaustion but seemed nice enough. "Hello, welcome to The Hotel," she greeted. "Hi! I have an apartment room. I'm Claire Ems." I smiled. she started typing quickly into her computer. "Yes, here you are," and with that she passed me a cool silver keycard. I thanked her sweetly and headed towards the elevator. I pressed the button with an arrow which faced up and the doors opened up immediately. I walked inside still carrying my items and such. I looked at the card. 'Room 921 Floor 18' I read in my head. I must have misread the number of the floor wrong. I don't remember picking a room on the 18th floor. It seems too high.

I jabbed my thumb into the button numbered 18 and the doors closed with a short 'ding'. The numbers on the little elevator screen moved quickly and in about 10 minutes I was headed towards the front of my apartment door.
