Shay's POV
My mouth fell to the floor as she smiled up at me, then turned to skip to her mother. I looked at Nick as he pulled our bag down and we headed off the plane.
By the time Nick and I got in the cab, we haven't said a word about what had happened earlier.
"How'd she know?" I spoke up as Nick who sat in the back next to me shifted himself in his seat. "I mean, we haven't announced it and I'm barely a month." I couldn't see Nick's eyes due to his dark shades, but I knew they were closed while he was deep in thought.
"I don't know, some things can't be explained. All that matters is whether our baby is a boy or a girl, it will be ours." I leaned my head on his shoulder as he kissed the top and placed his hand back on my belly. It's hard to believe that after all these years, this is where we ended up. In the back of a cab scared and excited all at the same time. I'm so happy that I'm going through this with him, my best friend in the entire world.
Nick's POV
The thoughts of being a dad are becoming more real the more I think about it. I'm scared shit less,
and can imagine how Kevin must of felt with Alena.
Shay pulled on my arm as we made our way to the front door.
"What if Joe still wants nothing to do with me? Why are we here anyways?" I let out a sigh and moved her hair behind her ears.
"We're here to help Dani go through Kevin's stuff. Keep what's really important then donate the rest. I'm sure Joe will behave himself because this whole process is going to be emotional overwhelming." I kissed her head after she nodded then knocked on Dani's door. She welcomed us with a warm smile and her arms wide open.
"Thank you guys so much for coming! Alena is with my parents and everything that's Kevin's is scattered around the living room." After we both hugged her, I saw Shay looking at Joe from across the room as he stood up to hug me. I noticed she watched his every movement carefully, knowing one wrong move on her part could send him off. After chatting with me, he made his way to her. Her expression says it all. I knew she was thinking the worst and was scared shitless, but both our nerves got calmed when he offered her in his arms. It was a very short hug, but at least it was something. "Are you guys hungry? Joe grilled up some hot dogs," Dani asked as she made way to the kitchen for plastic plates. We all agreed we were hungry and after grabbing our servings, we sat at the dining table.
"Mmm, these hot dogs are great," Shay said breaking the silence.
"Well yeah, they're hot dogs. You just throw them on a grill. It's not rocket science," Joe rudely said rolling his eyes. I shot him a look from across the table.
Strike One
"So Shay, how is your pregnancy going along? Dani asked changing the subject. "You're three weeks right?"
"Uh yeah I think I'm about three weeks," she started to say.
"You think? I figured you'd remember the day that Nick's entire life was ripped out from under him."
"Joe, may I talk to you in the other room please?" I commanded standing up from my seat and throwing my napkin beside my plate. "What the fuck is wrong with you?" I asked angrily.
"Me? What did I do?"
"Oh don't even Joe. Do you know why we're here? To help Dani go through Kevin's things. It's hard enough as it is, and you're being extremely rude and disrespectful. Whatever inappropriate comment you have to make to Shay, can you keep it in while we're here? Actually, it'll be great if you didn't make them at all," I finished. Joe sighed and scratched the back of his neck.
