Shay's POV
"Hello? Is anyone there?" I opened my eyes and my vision became blurry. Once they adjusted I recognized where I was, the Jonas's treehouse at their childhood's home. I haven't been in here since I was 12. "Hello?" I called out again.
"Welcome back," a familiar voice spoke from behind me. I turned around and saw Kevin standing there smiling. I immediately stood up and ran into his arms almost knocking us over. "Oof!.. It's good to see you too," Kevin laughed letting us go.
"Wow, it's been so long since I've been here last..May I ask why you've decided to bring us here?" I slightly chuckled looking around the small inclosed space. Kevin laughed and took a seat in one of the blue bean bags in the corner.
"Well it's quite simple really..this was our go to hang out spot as kids. It was also the place where you and I would discuss your Nick problems." I smiled as I remembered those times. "Speaking of which, did I not give you enough signs to not go into that studio?" He quickly became serious and I couldn't help but laugh.
"I should've known that was you! Mister I want everyone to get along," I mocked at him. He smiled and shrugged his shoulders.
"I tried..but you seemed to handle it well," he chuckled then looked down. "Nick needs a break from music right now. He's drowning himself in it and I know he's dying inside because of it. Will you please lean him away for a couple of days?" I smiled and nodded my head because I was thinking the same thing, but wasn't sure if it was the right thing to do. Kevin's validation was all I needed to know for sure.
I woke up from my dream with Kevin's words still hovering over my thoughts as I made my way upstairs to Nick.
When I opened the door, he was wide awake laying on his back staring at the ceiling. He had two backpacks leaning on the wall by the door and a smile on his face when he saw me walk in.
"I was wondering when you were going to get up," he gave a devilish grin while sitting himself up.
"What are we doing?" I asked nervously.
"We're going camping."
***************
"Okay, do we have everything?" Joe called out after shutting the back of his truck and locking it on each side.
"No, we're still waiting on Nick," I lightly muttered as I made my way to place Nick's bag on the backseat and climbed in. Nick then came into view after locking our front door.
"It's about time you got here," Joe sarcastically said as he started up the truck and pulled out onto the road. Demi pushed his shoulder.
"Stop being such an ass, the man doesn't feel good," Demi said looking back at us from the mirror.
"Then why are we going camping?"
"Because I want to, I need to slow things down and keep my mind busy doing other things," Nick huffed leaning his head on the window and shutting his eyes. I wrapped my arms around him and pulled him down to my lap. Once his head got there, I began to stroke his hair that seemed to grow overnight.
Joe looked at me from the mirror and his eyes said it all.
"I'm sorry, I'm just worried."
"Don't worry about me. Just worry about getting us there safely," Nick murmured. His eyes stayed shut as I took the back of my index finger and made a trail down the side of his face. The corner of his lips began to form a smile and I couldn't help but to smile back.
*****************
About two hours into the three hour drive, Joe's truck broke down. I guess Nick made a point when saying that Joe should worry more about getting us there safely.
