A white light flooded my eyes as I slowly tried to open them, hoping to not hurt myself. Eventually I saw the white walls of the unfamiliar hospital room filled with unfamiliar voices and sounds.

"Doctor, he's awake now." A man's voice seemed to echo off the walls of my head. I tried moving my head but a sharp pain shot through my neck and skull and I let out a painful groan.

"Don't strain yourself, Max." A female voice said from somewhere beside me. I stared at the ceiling and breathed slowly trying to down the pain.

"You've got a mild concussion, a sprained neck, a broken elbow, and a fractured foot. Along with roughly thirty cuts that needed to be stitched. But the pain is worth the fact that you survived so if I were you, don't complain. With the scans that we've taken there seems to be no brain damage that we can detect but just in case we will be running a few more just in case. Um," she paused trying to remember whatever she was supposed to say and nodded after a few minutes, "I'm going to have you stay here for a week or two until you get your neck brace off, I've called your emergency contacts and they should be here soon if not now. But in the meantime nurse Will is going to be remaining in the room to keep a watch on you and make sure you're still breathing."

The silence lingered after her rambling diagnostic and sentences that followed. I was speechless and unable to think straight. I didn't want to speak, I was too embarrassed laying still on the hospital bed when something came to my mind. Erica. What happened to her, where is she, is she alive? I turned my dead gaze to look at the lady; she had crimson red hair and pale-ish skin with freckles under her deep blue eyes, she wore a white doctors coat that began to rise and fall whenever she breathed.

"What happened to Erica?" I asked painfully in a raspy, broken voice. The lady looked nervously over to where the nurse must've been standing then back at me and sighed.

"I'm not authorized to give out information about other patients but since she was from the same crash I can tell you a little bit; Erica is in a crucial stasis because of her injuries. She will survive, we have no doubt about that, but she will with some sacrifices." Mentally I nodded but physically just stared in the doctor's direction.

"Excuse me, doctor Anderson, someone is here to see the patient." A woman said from the door and the doctor nodded watching as the door closed before looking back at me.

"As soon as we are authorized to release more information, you will be the first to be notified." She smiled and walked quickly out saying something to whomever was out there as I stared at the nurse standing in the corner. The door shut and footsteps quickly made their way to me as I turned my gaze from the nurse to Ross.

"Max! You've never looked worse, buddy." Ross's voice was nervous as he looked at me.

"Thanks." I said in the most sarcastic way I could manage.

"How did this happen?" The question that has been stuck in my head for as long as I've been conscious.

"I don't really know, or at least I can't remember at the moment." I said staring at him blankly and watched Ross's face not change until he thought about it.

"Shit man, sorry. Um, I have to call your folks and probably get Adam or Tim over here." He stopped talking to look up at me nervously from his phone.

"Don't call my parents." Ross nodded and left the room and I was left in silence to think and remember.

"I hate being alone. Ugh this sucks." I thought to myself looking over towards the nurse sitting in the corner reading the machines. He looked up and started to stand.

"Do you need anything, sir?" He asked and I took a moment to think.

"It's too quiet, can you play music? I don't care who the artist is, I just can't stand the silence." I looked at the ceiling and waited to hear the sound of something.

"Is Nickleback okay?" I heard him ask and I smiled.

"That's perfect actually." I smiled feeling myself doze off and fall asleep attempting to remember what happened exactly.
