The Days After

After eight weeks went by and Erica was finally aloud to come home. It was a mellow few days as she got settled into my apartment, of course with the help of Tim, Ross, and me. Ross and I were sharing the largest room while she took mine for a while until we found a house. Both Ross and I had left the offices two weeks back and now we looked for a new house with Tim and now Erica since she can't live on her own. When her first week finally came to an end on Sunday, both her and I sat on the tares enjoying the last of the day's light.

"Tell me about it." Erica's voice was hollow as she spoke, the same way it had been since she came back.

"About what Eri?" I asked turning away from the sunset in front of me to study her peaceful body.

"The sunset, what does it look like?" It was saddening looking at her bandaged face. I wondered what it would be like not being able to see and felt a terror that I dont normally feel.

"Well, let's start with the sky; the clouds form a soft pattern of stripes across the sky, colored in pastel pinks, blues, and purples. The light colors get darker and darker the farther away from the setting sun turning into the deepest of blues." I paused hearing a long, deep breaths escape from Erica's thin lips. She smiled slightly before opening her mouth to speak.

"What about the sun?" She asked.

"The sun is a bright red, casting its deepish red glare on the lake's surface. The rays of light jumps out, bounces off the trees, and plays with the shadows on the ground. It's like back home if you can remember that long ago." I let my voice drag on as the sun set. We sat in silence for a while, I watched her head as it looked to where the sun had been minutes ago. I wondered what she was thinking, if it was of me, or if she was just remembering the moments of long ago.

"Max?" Erica asked quietly with a slight hoarseness in her voice.

"I'm here." I responded putting my hand to hers that reached out towards me.

"It's gone." She whispered.

"I know." I replied watching her head nod.

"Who is Travis?" She asked. I didn't know if I wanted to explain what had happened between her and him. But on the other hand she should know.

"He is your ex-boyfriend, but you guys are not together for reasons I don't want to explain deeply." I answered honestly. She nodded.

"Was I happy?" That was the question I didn't want to come up.

"For the most part, no. He was very abusive and mean to you, it was the worst relationship you've ever had." Again I answered honestly.

"How do you know that I was unhappy?" She asked.

"You told me." There was silence for a while before either of us said anything.

"What happened," she breathed, "the accident, what happened?" I took a deep breath.

"You and I were going on a date one day as our lunch break at the offices. While we were driving we were talking about our feelings towards each other when Travis came up. You and I ended up getting into a slightly overheated argument and I had my eyes off the road to look at you. Then we crashed." Again there was silence after my voice trailed off into nature in front of us. I heard a deep breath from beside me as I traced circles on her hand.

"Are we together?" Erica finally spoke after five minutes of silence. I want to be with Eri, she's my everything, but if she can't remember me then I don't know if its possible.

"I may not remember a lot about anything else but I remember all of you. I want to be with you Max, I love you." Words I thought I'd never hear from her again came from her mouth. I smiled so brightly but pushed it away quicker than it came.

"I love you, too." I said watching her smile sweetly. She stood up and walked towards the door, placing her hand on my shoulder before she left.

"Don't stay out too long, you'll catch a cold mister." Her sarcastic voice was back, my favorite. Ever since she got here she's been walking the apartment and eventually making everything out. Her body is fully functional and healthy, all except her beautiful brown eyes. I missed those a lot. I was brought out of my trance by my phone ringing, it was Erica's doctor.

"Doctor Farling?" I asked confused by his call

"I have a way to fix Erica's blindness!"
