The sound of your alarm made its way into your deep sleep and you woke up. You stretched your arms and yawned. You rubbed your eyes and thought about your dream.
The eye. The noises. What an awful dream to have. I'm glad everything is okay.
You swing your legs over the side of the bed and your foot hits something hard. The case of your cello. The realization sets in and you freeze. Everything comes back to you. The quiet chatter. The smell of the rain. The noises. The blood. It was all real. It all happened. You look over at your dog wagging it's tail at the door. (He/She) is waiting for (his/her) walk, but you can't move.
All you do is scream. You let out all of the fear that had been built up the night before. Your dog whines and you sob. You pull your legs up to your chest and you cry uncontrollably. (D/n) sets (his/her) head on the bed next to you and whines once more. You smile and you get up. You look at yourself in the mirror as you wipe away your tears.
"I'm okay," you start to say aloud, "I survived. I'm Alive. Everything will be okay."
You get dressed in a pair of shorts and a tshirt. You grab a dog leash and hook it to (d/n)'s collar. As you step outside a police car drives past you house towards the direction of what you saw last night. You feel nauseous but you try not to dwell on it.
You walk (d/n) around the block. Saying good morning to people who pass. It's about 7:45 but others are out in the neighborhood as well. When you arrive back at your house, it's 8:10. You take a quick shower and you get dressed. You put on gray jeans and a dark blue plain tshirt. You style your (h/l), (h/c) hair as you always do, and you grab your wallet and your purse. At 8:30 you hear a honk outside.
Right on time as always.
You say goodbye to (d/n) and you lock the door behind you. You wave to your neighbor as you make your way down the drive way to (f/n)'s car. You open the door and climb in.
"Hey, (y/n). How are you? Did you sleep at all?"
"Yeah I slept. I'm doing a lot better. Thanks."
"Did you see those police cars drive by?"
"Yeah."
"Do you think it was for...you know."
"Yeah. I do."
(F/n) pulled away from the curb and she drove in silence.
"I'm glad you're okay."
"Me too."
More silence.
"Let's get off of this subject. You're okay and that's all that matters. We're going to this little coffee shop I heard about in the 20th ward. I heard it's really nice. Friendly staff too. Maybe you can...I don't know...finally get yourself a date?"
You laugh at her comment.
"With who? A barista at a coffee shop? A bus boy? No thanks." You say back while still laughing. (F/n) chuckled.
"All I'm saying is, I won't let you die alone with 82 cats."
"I won't be alone, (f/n). I'll have 82 cats...and you."
You both laugh and talk the rest of the way to the coffee shop as if nothing bad had happened the night before. You liked it that way. (F/n)'s company always made you feel better when you had rough days. (F/n) parks in front of the coffee shop. You glance at the sign as you walk in.
