"I'll have an iced vanilla latte." You say to the waitress.
"The usual for you, Uta?" She say as she writes something down on her order book.
Uta nods and she makes her way back to the kitchen. You fiddle with the utensils on the table, and Uta takes his sunglasses off.
"I'm going to the restroom." He says as he stands up. He unwraps his scarf and takes off his light jacket, leaving them in his chair.
You nod as he leaves, and you glance out the window.
"(Y/n)?"
You turn your head in the direction of the voice. A tall, thin, older woman stands in front of you. Her shoulder length, auburn hair is parted in the middle, and she is wearing a dark blue turtleneck. Light freckles dot her pale skin, and a pair of thin framed glasses sit on her nose. A strand of beads hang off of the glasses, and loop around her neck.
"C-Cindy?" You stutter out.
"(Y/n)...Where have you been?"
You look her in the eyes as your brain fumbles for an excuse. As you're about to speak, Uta approaches the table. His expression darkens as he steps in between the two of you.
"Emmalyn, who's this?" He asks you politely.
Emmalyn?
You blink a few times as a puzzled look takes over your face.
Oh. Right. Everyone thinks I'm dead.
"Oh, Uta. This is Cindy Corely. She's the first chair cellist for the TSO."
His face brightens up and he smiles towards Cindy.
"The TSO? Emmalyn here is a big fan." He says.
"Y-yes. That's why I was so taken back. It's an honor to be speaking with you." You say more smoothly.
Cindy narrows her eyes and clenches her jaw.
"Well, I'm always pleased to speak with a fan. Have a lovely day." She says while she walks off.
Uta grabs your arm in a gentle but firm way, and he escorts you out to the car.
"We didn't even have our coffee, Uta." You mutter as you step inside.
"That was too close (y/n). Thank you for being quick on your feet. I'm not fully convinced that she believed you." He says with an anxious tone.
"Cindy is a smart woman. She probably saw right through it." You sigh.
"Well either way we have to get back home. I have to call Shuu and see what the plan is." He says as he rubs the bridge of his nose. He starts the car up and the two of you head home. You listen to the radio as you sit quietly in the car. A man with a deep, polished voice speaks calmly about the weather.
"There's going to be a big storm tonight." You say.
Uta only nods as you continue down the road.
As you arrive at the shop, you open your door and step out of the car. You wait patiently as Uta unlocks the front door of the building, and the two of you step inside. As you take off your coat, thunder rumbles in the distance.
"I'm going to go get us some food. Stay here. I'll be back in an hour or two." He says in a drab way.
You nod and head upstairs. As you're halfway up the steps, you sit down and listen carefully. His engine starts up, and you hear him pull away from the store. You quickly get up and run down stairs. You throw on your coat and head outside, making sure to leave the back door unlocked. You run down the sidewalk and search desperately for a cab. After pacing up and down the busy road, you find a bus stop, with the schedule posted.
